The Wire (Best show on tv no one watches) Season 5 thread
Quote:
THE WIRE`s fourth season, which concluded in Dec. 2006, made many critics` "best of the year" lists. The New York Times said it "will knock the breath out of you... best season yet," while Entertainment Weekly observed that THE WIRE "has made the final jump from great TV to classic TV...the sort of dramatic cycle people will still be writing and thinking about 25 years from now...a staggering achievement." Daily Variety said, "When television history is written, little else will rival `The Wire`...extraordinary," and the San Francisco Chronicle hailed it as "a masterpiece...must be considered alongside the best literature and filmmaking in the modern era."
The fifth and final seasons first episode should be available from 1 January (it doesn`t start until 6 Jan but is on HBO on Demand on 31 Dec).
Although I know there will probably only be me and one or two others watching
Amazon.com have some excluive prequels, they are nothing more than 2minute fillers, but worth a watch.

cool, thanks for the heads up.
i thought season 4 was the weakest, but that still makes it better than most tv shows out there.

I loved all seasons but 4 was the weakest IMO but still enjoyable, cant wait

just watched those shorts, an excellent reminder why I love The Wire, especially the Omar one :)
They did a great job casting those kids as the adults, alwasy amazes me when TV shows or films do flashbacks, and thie kids get the voice, mannerisms and look just right.
Got me all excited about the new series.
Omar`s comin`, Omar`s comin` ...
thanks again

I agree about Season 4 probably being my least favourite, but I think the main cause was the fact that the whole Barksdale/ Stringer Bell storyline had finished in Season 3.
Saying that I`m going to rewatch through season 4 this month and it might be one of those where you appreciate it more when you rewatch it through.

For The Wire fans, I`ve just started reading the book by the creator of The Wire which is really good from what I`ve read.

I`ve had The Corner: a Year in the Life of an Inner-city Neighbourhood by David Simon on my Amazon wish list for ages, never got round to getting it though, and I guess none of my friends/family know what it is so haven`t got me it.

A reminder about series 5 starting.
Plus I`m in the middle of rewatching series 4, I`m a lot more into it than I remember the first time.
Cleverest tv show on tv by a mile.

Just finished rewatching The Wire season 4, absolutely awesome.
A lot better than I remembered the first time round, think because of the amount of ongoing stories, you lose some track of some of the long running depth of some stories.
I did have a two month gap between seeing episodes 1-6 and 7-13 which would probably have had an effect aswell. I`m thinking I will watch the second season of Brotherhood at least before I start on season 5 of The Wire (unless it is leaked and wholly available again) :D
