Page 1 of New Harry Potter controversy?

JK Rowling has apparently stated Dumbledore was/is gay on a book tour. Probably won`t bother most people (and she appears jokingly a little concerned about fan fiction herself) but there are plenty of bigots who already hate this series and this is one more thing to fan the flames for them...

I did get a vibe from him and Grindelwald in DH - it reminded me a lot of the intense possessive friendships/crushes teenage girls can have with each other - I always assumed he was sleeping with McGonagall though! :o

Personally, it won`t make a blind bit of difference to me. I`m not going to go out of my way to re-read the books and try to decipher any potential gay understones in the book, simply because there aren`t any. Of course, the morons will soon be out in force, stating that it was completely obvious DD was gay mainly because he liked talking to Harry in Broom sheds.

Incidentally, why should the fact DD`s gay be in any way controversial,in a realistic and modern society?

It shouldn`t. The only reason I mentioned it, and presumably why the BBC thought it newsworthy, is that there are plenty of groups who already want it banned due to it`s magical/mystical references. Outing one of the characters is almost certainly going to cause vein bursting in some of them and probably yet more boycott calls.

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.
