A Question for "nelley" or anybody with Scan DVD knowledge
Hi Guys,
A quick question and thought I would post here to save ringing scan ;-)
Im using my scan sc-2000 as my main hi-fi! I want to record from the Cd my mini-disc player! When I did this through the optical lead, it didnt put each track on a different number! There was just one track with all the songs on! Is there a setting (or any plans for one!) that will put the gaps in without me having to do it manually!!
Any help would be appreciated
Cheers
Mart
Mart, this is an old problem, but not one just limited to the scan - their are quite a few "stand alone" cd players that exhibit the same problems - for some reason they dont seem to "pass on" the track markings to the md recorder - i also found it can be md recorder related as well, as using the same cd player with a totally different recorder didnt give any problems.
Its usually something thats associated when recording in the analogue domain as the track marks just arent their anyway - but as you say you used an optical connection so that rules that out.
Is the md recorder you are using a portable or stand alone unit? if so try using the coax input if the recorder is a stand alone - as long as the scan supports coax out of course.
If you can borrow another md recorder try that and at least see which unit is giving you the problem
As an aside, Its also exhibited if you are using an SCMS stripper between the cd player and recorder to defeat the built in copying protection used - some SCMS strippers "strip" everything from the data - not just the "copy prohibit" status.
Obvious points but just worth a mention, - Make sure you are using "CD sync" on the recorder - apart from that unless Scan know otherwise you might be stuck with the problem - i replied just to let you know it can and does happen to many of the bigger names - in fact some sony CD players dont work with sony MD recorders... go figure...
If you cant solve it - remember you can always add the track marks manually - but thats just as a last resort....

I got a Sony MD and there is a setting that will put a track No in when there is a gap of a few seconds without any music, ideal for Rock/Pop but could be a pain for Classical users..still that why it`s selectable.
Also my Sony CD player is from the early 90`s and works well with the MD and also works of the MD`s remote as well even though theres nearly 10 years between them!
Cheers Guys!
Im using an oldish (5 or so years old!) Sharp portable minidisc recorder! It worked fine with my old Hifi etc but now this problem has occurred!
I will try my mates Mini disc recorder tonight but Im assuming that it is a problem with the DVD Player, im using no copy protection thingys and im doing it via the optical lead on cd sync but its only one track! I also assume that my MD player has the gap thing that you talk about bear cos when I recorded fun lovin criminals and, the secret track (hidden after a 20min blank gap!) was on track 2!!!
Its all too much!! ;-)

Hi Mart,
It sounds like the DVD player isnt "passing" the track marks thru for some reason - using CD sync usually takes care of all the tedious stuff - the 3 second gap option is usually used when u are making an analogue recording - but even then it can be hit and miss as 3secs isnt a universal standard - would be interested if Nelley knows the answer, but as i said its not that uncommon - i used to review md players for a for an Audiophile supplement when i worked abroad and saw the same thing on several recorder/cd combinations - even the same model cd but with a different batch number would sometimes work - but not consistently - it was not something the big boys wanted to hear - their own cd players didnt work with their own brand name md recorders.... - quite a few times items where withdrawn from review so they could investigate the cause.
