I am on NTL broadband & telephone only.
A sales guy rang me yesterday & told of the new name & more or less forced me into buying the TV pack as well as it was only £1 extra, but I said that I do not watch telly & do not want kids to be Telly addicts, But I gave up & signed for the pack, which does NOT tie me to extra 12 months contract.

UPDATE
I went on NThells web site, They now offer 2M Broadband & telephone for £20 a month as a package, so I rang them up to cancell the TV pack ( which they FORCED on to me yesterday )& they have done it. I shall now be paying £20 pm without having to do any bargaining !!!!!!

Same here with the letter,I have tried to get NTL broadband for two years but was told last month it will never be in my area only dial up is available and no digital TV either, tried BT but they want £125 just to turn my BT socket on in my new house and the same again to move the socket and put it where I want it. :/

I rang Telewest in the week to try and get a discount on my £17.99 a month broadband as they are currently welcoming new customers at £10.00 a month for 12 months. I was told there was nothing they could do for me so I asked to be put through to Cancellations and the woman in that dept waived my phoneline rental of £11 a month for 12 months instead!!

Result.

F***ers. I`ve been with them 10 years and they only gave me a £7.50 reduction after I complained and threatened to leave. They wouldn`t budge on that.

Also, have they just removed some channels from the various packages without notice? We have the Essential (now called `L`) and no longer have access to Jetix and the Box (and possibly more channels) even though prices are increasing. I`m really starting to despise them.

I did get a rebate, after receiving an offer from Sky for cheap Internet Broadband (don`t know how good they are but they were offering me a 8mb for a £10 monthly) and was going to switch to Vonage for the phone (£7.99 unlimited call and free international calls to France, Spain and USA). Anyway, called Telewest and they gave me Broadband (4mb) and unlimited phone calls (except 0845 and 0870 of course) for £36.50 instead of the £50 + calls i was paying. Still more than if I switched with Sky/Vonage but I have been quite happy with Telewest broadband so I did not want to take the risk to lose a good service.

I`m a happy Virgin Mobile customer, so I`m a lot less concerned about this than I was about the NTL merger (which has been all negative so far - bastards even want £1 for an itemised bill now!).

Quite heartening on the ad to hear "Go on, download it, download all of it"... hopefully Blueyonder`s old liberal attitude to bandwidth has been retained?
