Scottish Girl In India

Apologies if I upset members of this forum...

I honestly believe that this wee lassie`s dad has plans to marry her to a member of his family.

Any girl, no matter what religion has the right to marry whom she wants.

And in a few months time when the truth comes out she`ll be begging to come back to her Mum.

The fact that the rest of the family do not want to live with their mother is interesting and should give you insight as to the situation with the family and the mother.

I was shocked that the Judge in Pakistan said she should live with her mother as it would be so easy to rule against her as:

1. A snub to people like the posters above whose attitude is to assume that her father wants her married off.
2. She wants to stay there.
3. Under the law in Pakistan in cases of divorce a child has to stay with her parents upto the age of ten then the father has the right to have them stay with him.
4. Ruling against a foreigner in support of a local.

Lets see what the appeal brings up.

In islam both parties must give their consent.

The idea of forced marriage is not a religous thing it is a cultural thing, hence it is done in Pakistan and India by both Muslims, Christians and Hindus.

Because believing is always the same as truth........

Fwiw, and its not worth a lot as the usual suspects appear to have made their minds up already, I saw a news report on this the other day. A camera crew followed her around for a day. She lives in a big house, her dad is comparatively wealthy, she wants for nothing, plays football in the sun with her brother and says that her private education there is better than the one she was getting in scotland.

She wants for literally nothing, which is vastly different from the council house life she had in scotland.

If her dad decides to marry her off (not necassarily to his brother :s), arranged marriage doesnt always end in a life of rape and enforced servitude.

If she wants to stay there, f***ing let her. She was clearly miserable in scotland and, by all accounts, has a great life in pakistan. If she chooses to immerse herself in the culture to the extent of an arranged marriage, it isnt the end of the world. Its not always so black and white `Britain=Brilliant: Everywhere Else=3rd world shanty town`.

It just goes to show the level of ignorance of a lot of the reactioanry posters that the OP couldnt even get the f***ing country right, presumably because they are all the same anyway.

Why can`t the girl just decide who she wants to live with? If she is forced to live the parent she dislikes then surely she`ll just run away or something similar.

In what way exactly? The fact that I appear to be the only one with any kind of knowledge about the case other than `Muslims are no better than cavemen?`.

Since you are posting on here, you can obviously read and write, to some extent, so you should probably dedicate the next few weeks to discovering that in Pakistan, they dont all live in mud huts and sell women into sexual slavery.

Honestly, once you get east of spain, the world doesnt suddenly devolve into the opening scenes from 2001. Believe it or not, the news only reports the most extreme and newsworthy stories. Incredible, I know.......
