Was wondering....
What is the limit of £££££ into the uk before Customs nabs ya??
ie: You can get a dvd into the country tax-free if its total value is under a specific price
I did hear it was about 18-22squid, but not sure
Can any1 enlighten me??
Appreciate it.......
RE: IMPORT TAX.....IMPORT TAX??
Forgive me if any of this is incorrect...
but if it costs less than £18 then you pay no tax, which is why r1 dvds from sites such as movietyme.com and play247.com cost £17.99 or less. Also this is why buy from ezydvd and the like is cheaper, as no tax payable. (and strong pound)
Some people get away without paying tax for box sets which cost a lot more. partly luck? and partly to do with the declaration form sent by the retailer saying its a gift.
Visit hmce.gov.uk for more info however i can`t find that specific page whihc had the product categories and tax rate.
hopefully that helps a bit.

RE: IMPORT TAX.....IMPORT TAX??
At the moment duty is liable if the value of the goods (i.e. *NOT* including P&P charges) is £18 or more. Whether you have to pay it is down to luck, but if you are charged then duty is payable on the total cost *INCLUDING* the P&P charges.
See http://www.hmce.gov.uk/notices/143.htm
If you do get caught, its 17.5% VAT+ 3.5% Import Duty= 21% of the value of the goods u will have to pay. Also the post office usually charge a handling fee. of about £1
RE: IMPORT TAX.....IMPORT TAX??
Being mathematically picky, it`s actually 21.6125% as you are charged duty and then VAT on top of the duty, e.g. :-
£20 DVD
add duty
£20.70
add VAT
£24.32
