Patio Heaters

marksparks999 (Elite) posted this on Monday, 12th June 2006, 11:36

Question i have just bought one... i am wonereing which gas to use, it says uses butane or propane... i know they use a different regulator each, which is going to give better performance, most readily available etc???

I know some garages sell cylinders on thier forecourts, but i am too lazy to drive out just to have a look at the moment, so i though i would ask the dvd reviewer experts!

Propane (red bottles) is better suited to outdoor use as Butane (blue bottles) has difficulty vapourising at lowish temperatures.

Ours said we had to use the green ones :/ . These tend to come with a guage on which gives you an idea as to how much gas you have left. In fact the green ones are the only ones that fit ours (regulator wise). I didn`t want to go messing with things like butane & propane as I have a terndancy to mess things mechanical up big time :(

I`ve also seen the green range bottles advertised as being specially for barbies and patio heaters.
I`ve also heard from a bunch of tree hugging, whale loving veggies that you will be singularly responsible for global warming! :o :o :o

Have you tried switching it on........?

Think the argument goes like this: You are using a small gas cylinder to heat up the entire atmosphere. A fire/heater can efficiently warm up a closed space (cave/castle/house/flat etc) but a patio heater is not enclosed, so will never get the place warm. Mind you, all the gases from all the indoor fires get into the atmosphere as well, so it`s a tough one to understand....

The whole BBQ/Patio thing goes right over my head.
Simply cannot understand it.
As far as I can tell, people BBQ food approximately 10 feet away from their kitchen,in which there will be a perfectly good cooker.
I just don`t get that, apart from silly blokes doing the "ME..FIRE...COOK MEAT WITH FIRE" act. :(
With regard to patio heaters, why sit outside under a heater when you can simply go inside ? :/

Ach well.

Because if you sit outside you are no longer in your house, So that way you can drink beer :p ;)

I thank you. I must admit I don`t get it. Put a jumper on if you are cold.
