Is it possible to record programmes without the ads using Sky+, or do you have to forward through them?

Thanks,

Foward through them, I`m afraid. Which is hardly a chore, it only takes a few seconds. :) now scram to the Hardware Forum before someone tells you off. :P

Even better than fast-forwarding through them though, is just pressing back-up and adding 5 minutes to the time - it`s almost perfect with Sky stuff, and with various programmes that have different length ad-breaks, you get to know how much to add on (eg. WWE Raw has 3 minutes ad breaks).

Sky Plus is just one of the best things ever invented - I can`t believe how much quicker, easier and just all-round better it makes watching everything. :)

I`m sure ir ead somewhere that at the end of February - beginning of March sky will be sending an update to all + boxes that will skip adverts. At the minute this is hearsay i might aswell have made it up because i can`t find a bloody link:(.

EDIT - Just remembered, i think i read that the update will come round about the same time that Sky activate peoples USB ports.

...sounds good, but would they legally be able to do that? What about all the advertisers that advertise on Sky - I`m sure they wouldn`t be too happy about it!

I`m guessing, but seeing as SKY are a subscription service their primary income will come from subscribers, with advertising income second.
SKY should, therefore, listen to subscribers before advertisers.

I could see ITV/CH4/CH5 blocking the option on their channels through SKY though.

Bit geeky this one, but ...

the bookmarking feature on Sky+ is very handy for cutting out breaks. When you recorded something, go to the planner and then define times when you think there are ad breaks - easier than you think, as they`re usually around 10 past, half hour and 10 to the hour. Press select and then skip to the beginning of the next part and bookmark it using the red button. When you come to view the programme, at the end of each part press pause then the green button and select - it then skips the ad break completely.
