Sky+ Virus?

Does anyone know anything about viruses on Sky+?

My mum`s been having problems with our Sky+ recently (not recording, recording the wrong program when you are actually watching the channel you want to record, freezing when you try to use live pause etc) and she`s had an engineer out today who`s said that the problem we had a virus on the box, and supposedly he flicked through the menu`s and turned the box off and then said it was fixed.

I`m sceptical though as he claimed that it got a virus because we were using Broadband for the PC and that was the problem. Also, when my Mum tried to explain a problem of the program names and descriptions that had been recorded changing when they had been correct when orignally recorded, he just told that this was impossible and that it never happened even though my Mum explained that it definately did originally have the correct description(she knew for sure because they were concerts that she had recorded and been playing for a few months.)

The other thing thats made me think that he was just a blagger was that he claimed that he had formatted our Sky box and rebooted it to get rid of the virus, and it actually says this on the invoice he`s left, but she still has all the original programs that had been recorded so surely he cannot have formatted the hard drive?

Have we been scammed by just lazy b****rd who couldn`t be bothered, or I am slating a good honest hard working engineer?

If anyone knows anything about these any advice would be much appreciated as warantee expired last week (we informed Sky of problems before then though so this visit was covered)

utter crap.. that`s what the bloke was talking... and if you still have programmes on the hard drive.. then it definatley hasn`t been formatted.. you can do it yourself.. by going to TV SERVICES / OPTION 4 .. then press 01 and select.. choose full reset..

Yep, sounds like a pile of tosh - complain to Sky and ask for a proper engineer to be sent round.

And make sure they don`t charge you for the pleasure.

Cheers for response, just what I thought. Don`t want to call up a call centre giving people grief when I`m not 100% that he was a scammer.

We`ve reformated hard drive and just waiting to see if there`s any problems. Have phoned Sky and the girl I spoke to actually said that it was terrible that this guy had claimed he`d sorted it out when he clearly hadn`t done nothing.

Supposedly if anything goes wrong now we can get another engineer out without any charge, believe it when it happens though.

The thing with program descriptions changing after a few months is beacuase Sky re-use the codes eventually I think.

Lots of people had problems with live pause after the upgrade a couple of months ago.

There was no need for an engineer to come round just to reformat the drive (even if he had done it properly which he didn`t) as technical support will talk you through all that on the phone :/
