Annual firework debate

Ban them from general sale and restrict their use to organised displays ?
I wish they would.
These things are getting out of control.
Some of them have concussive power of small artillery these days.
Beyond a joke now,for sure.

One of our neighbours decided 1130pm on Saturday was an acceptable time to re-enact the bombing of Baghdad in his garden.
In my quest to make his re-enactment realistic,I decided to take the insurgent role and threatened to take his bleeding head off. >:(
S`only fair really. :D

Totally agree, I`m at a loss as to how it is `legal` for people to walk around with explosive devices that can maim or even kill!!

And why is it necessary for the bangs to sound like a bomb has gone off.....there was an `organised` display that must be about 2 miles from my house last night. Some of the rockets they were using made my house shake!

By some miracle, my 2 year old daughter managed to sleep through most of it, my two cats however, are still behind the sofa shaking like ozzy osborne.

We had a great time in our backgarden in the drizzle lighting them off & having at least 3 big displays competing with our rockets.

All done by 21.30 father & me strolled off to the pub. :)

I quite like the Helpdesk people in a benevolent (as opposed to malevolent) way as they do some valuable work in preventing us being inundated by every halfwit who can work a phone.

A few years ago i would`ve disagreed with you Bowfer but i`m gonna agree with you as were still listening to the local chavs letting off nuclear weapons at 3am.
If that isn`t bad enough this goes on up until christmas then it`s a weeks break until bloody new year.

My cat is a funny one. She couldnt give a crap about fireworks. She comes in if they are getting a bit close, but they dont seem to freak her out in the slightest.

And since im not a twatty teenager anymore, I wouldnt shed a tear if they were banned except for professional displays. When I think of what we used to do with fireworks, im surprised I still have both hands.

We used to:

Scrape the gunpowder out of one banger and stuff it into another to make a super banger

Use the super banger to blow up road cones.

Put normal lit bangers in milk bottles, throw them into the air and watch them blow up.

Leave bangers in peoples exhaust pipes

Blow up dogs***

Use the slide at the park as a rocket launcher.

Sneak out and set off 10 shot airbombs off in the middle of our estate at 3 in the morning.

And various other wacky capers. So yeah, If I had kids, I would be petrified that they would get up to stupid things like that. And it also looks like I have a lot of Karma to make up for.....

Even if you do find fireworks at 1130 PM acceptable :/ ,the local police have made it illegal for them to be set off after 9pm on bonfire night,or 7pm any other night.
Fair,but completely un-enforceable.

Another point to add to the debate is that the local council`s main display, with cheap buses running to and from it from all over the city, was so bloody good that I fail to see how some poor attempt in your own garden can appeal. :/

Nail, Head, Hit!!

It`s called Bonfire Night, not FIREWORK NIGHT!!! or firework month come to that!

I can only assume that the government get a massive back hander from firework companies or they are taxed highly because otherwise they would have been banned already.

Bowfer - I dont understand what you are cribbing about - 11:30 on fireworks night is an acceptable time slot. You cant set off fireworks between 2300 and 0700 on all nights, but this is relaxed to 0000 and 0700 on Bonfire night, christmas eve and new year.

If someone likes fireworks, and decides to use them, as long as they are not out of these hours - I dont see a reason to complain.

[rant over]
I had a small party, and a fireworks display in the communal garden close to my house at 9:45 PM... some twat came out to his balcony 15 minutes later and started shouting obscenities - repeating "when the f*** will you finish" every 2 minutes till we ended finishing around 10:15p.m. I dont see anything wrong with the fireworks - I had informed the management agent in advance. In fact, several other people came out to their balconies (no houses here - apartment blocks) and enjoyed the show... some even took pictures, some joined us.

I had ensured that I had fireworks which were pretty and lit up the sky, but did not make loud bangs. Even so - just because of that w***er, our fun was spoiled. Thankfully slightly...

As I said - no reason to complain as long as they are not setting the fireworks off at 3 in the morning.

Personally, I`d rather have a small gathering of family and friends in my garden than stand around in the middle of a swamp trying not to listen to the deafening, naff pop music blaring from the speakers with the smell of burger vans and swarms of chavs ruining the experience.

Although I do agree, 11.30pm is a bit late, we always finish by 9pm and go inside for drinking and merryment :D
