Page 1 of Paypal Problem
General Forum
I recently sold an item on ebay and the seller paid me through paypal. I sold a region 1 dvd boxset of CSI.
Then 3 weeks later the user decided the item was not as described claiming they thought it was region 2 and paypal have decided to reverse the payment of £28.80.
The problem is I have no money in my paypal account so if they refund the buyer what happens to my account?
Have any of you expereinced anything like this before and if so how do I pay off this amount? Will I be charged additional fees?
it`ll come from the credit card/bank account you tied paypal into, out of interest, did you state the correct region in the auction ? because if the auction was correctly advertised i`d definitely be contesting paypals decision to refund >:(

Yes the region code was clearly written. Wouldn`t surpise me if the buyer watched the whole series and then deicded, to have his money back. The dvd set was brand new, the buyer has had it for 3 weeks! >:( >:(
I don`t actually have a bank account linked onto my paypal account. I removed it ages ago.
then definately refute paypals decision & write a very strongly worded email to there customer services, try not to sell anything using you`re paypal account as they will just snatch it before you can withdraw the funds.

I have sent paypal lots of emails regarding my disagreement with their decision but they will not budge.
They won`t take the money from your bank account/credit card, they can`t.
Your account will just go negative whatever they have refunded the buyer.
Just ignore it, they ain`t going to chase you for £30 odd.

This is unbelievable! PayPal were bang out of order to reverse payment - the matter was between you and the eBay customer. I would write them a polite but very firm letter saying how disgusted you are with them and that you won`t be using them again.
It sounds like the guy who bought the set is trying one on - have you left any feedback yet? If it was clearly marked/stated as Region 1, then he hasn`t got a leg to stand on. What is his feedback like? Crap like this happens sometimes on eBay though - I would be very p***ed off if I was in your situation!

you are right they wont chase you for it, they will sell your debt to a debt collection agency who will...
`I am going to live forever, or die trying`...
Surely they`ll have checked your original ad and seen that it states R1?!
Could have been worse... jcs.org/paypal/
I think if I start selling on eBay I will definitely request payment by other means than Paypal, but it`s been OK for buying.
Have you tried asking for advice on the Postage and Payment board on the eBay community forums?

If I sell R1 DVD`s I always state it in capitals in the auction title as REGION 1 DVD and again in the auction listing I state it again in big red letters thats it`s Region1 NTSC - USA and Canada - will play on North American Region 1 or Multi-Region DVD players ONLY - but thats probably not a lot of help for you now.
If you have no money in your PayPal a/c they`ll freeze it until you pay up and you won`t be able to use it. Dunno what happens after that though.
I buy using PayPal all the time but when I`m selling I never accept it for payments, it`s far too easy to get ripped off/stuffed, their charges are extortionate, and basically PayPal`s rule in the event of a dispute is: Buyer is always right unless Seller can prove otherwise.
If you do pay money into your PayPal account to refund the buyer and unfreeze your account PayPal will charge you a £15 fee on top. Basically whichever way you look at it, you`re stuffed.
Check out the PayPal sucks website.
Recommended methods of payment:
Postal Order (make sure they`re crossed and stamped by the issuing P.O. or could be stolen)
Personal Cheque - but can be reversed if funds were fraudently obtained.
NoChex - similar to PayPal but payments can`t be reversed i.e. no chargebacks - recommended.
Bank Transfer - simple, quick, safe and free. Recommended.
