Ricky Hatton Vs Kostya Tszyu.....

Hulk Smash! (Elite) posted this on Friday, 3rd June 2005, 01:28

Is anyone else ordering/watching the big fight at the weekend?

I can`t wait! I think Hatton is very over-rated and not in the same league as Tszyu (who`s Hatton fought?).

I`ve been a big fan of Tszyu for a while - his fights against Sharmba Mitchell and Zab Judah were awesome. This may be un-patriotic of me (ah, who cares!) but I`m hoping Tszyu will win by stoppage within the first 6 rounds. I personally feel the British fight fans have been ripped-off long enough by Frank Warren and Hatton - and it`s time for it to stop.... with a brutal K.O.! :D

I`ll be watching it and have not counted Hatton out of the fight; Tszyu can be hit and hurt and Hatton will set a pace that Tszyu will not like. As long as Hatton is careful in the first four rounds (Tszyu`s best chance of a KO win is here) and works to the body and head, moving in and out of distance and avoiding Tszyu`s sledgehammer right hand, I see no reason why he can`t win on points or by late stoppage. If Hatton fights as he did against Vince Phillips or Ben Tackie then he has a decent chance but if he leaves his chin out to dry, as he did against Eamonn Magee then he will get knocked out.

I see the fight either ending early for Tszyu or late for Hatton; either way, it should be a great fight and I hope Hatton wins.

IMO Hatton is to easy to hit, lesser fighters than Kostya Tszyu have shown that.
I think Tszyu will have too much power for him and predict a KO between 6 & 8 rounds.

I have to go for Tszyu too...I think he`s too big of a step-up in class for Hatton. I`d love Ricky to do it, but I think he`s out of his league.

Any help would be appreciated ;)

Any predictions for Harrison vs Brodie tonight? I think Brodie will outbox Harrison for a long period but the big Scot will catch up with Brodie at some stage to force a late stoppage.

May as well remove the spoiler tags as the result seems to be well known!

How right I was! Great fight and well done Ricky.

lol! Good call, wossname!

I`ll be the first to admit it - I was wrong about Hatton. I knew he was a decent fighter - I just didn`t think he had what it takes to be world class. But this win was very impressive - Hatton took everything Tszyu threw at him and set an incredible pace. He never stopped coming forward and bullying Tszyu (something I never thought I`d see). He`s certainly made a believer out of me! The respect/embrace between the two fighters at the end was great to see too - overall, a very good night for British boxing.

I`d love to see a fight between Hatton and Arturo Gatti - man, that would be awesome! :D

So would I but Gatti will be outboxed, and possibly stopped, by Mayweather and with him being under the HBO banner, it`s unlikely that the two will fight which would be a shame. Talk is that Hatton will now meet Diego Corrales which will be an excellent fight.

Hey Woss...well predicted. :)

I honestly thought, as good a fighter as he is, that Hatton would`ve come unstuck against Tszyu. No disrespect to Hatton, but going on Tszyu`s pedigree I figured he may have been too much for Ricky.

I listened to it on Radio 5 and it`s years since I`ve done that. Forgotten how frustrating that is!!!

Well done, Ricky. A well-deserved victory

I pretty much thought along same lines of Woss, (No I am not just saying that, I seriously did ;)), Hatton is a f***ing superb fighter and pound for pound is as good as it gets, just because he hadn`t fought certain people in the past means s***, it was all building upto this and him and Warren have been proven right and now the world knows just what a world class fighter Hatton is (Most Brits shoulda already known this), take note America, Hatton is about to come over and destroy all.....

Also, how great what the sportsmanship at the end? In a sport like boxing which is one of the most corrupt sports there is where boxers are outright arrogant most the time (But really I suppose you have to be in boxing sometimes) but the sportsmanship and grace from both fighters was fantastic to watch, nice guys do win, Congrats to Hatton, now become a legend.
