What the hell is with some kids these days?
Today, we hear that 5 kids, aged 11 and 12, have been arrested for the attempted murder
of a 5 year old. He was attacked in woods near his home, but managed to escape where he was taken to hospital with `severe injuries to his neck - indicative of hanging`. Police said that the injuries were such that they were treating the case as an attempted murder
There is so much wrong with that paragraph I don`t know where to start.
5 kids, (if the guess is correct) physically strung a rope up with the intention of hanging someone. Evidently, there were no doubts about what they were doing, as the only one to have raised the alarm was the victim.
5 kids, aged 11-12, playing in woods frequented by `teenagers` (getting up to god knows what) with no parental supervision, out of sight of the street.
A 5 year old, in the same woods. Wether he was co-erced there or he went of his own accord, the fact remains - no parental supervision.
In a separate report, a 6-year-old girl stabbed and killed another girl of the same age, over a rubber ball. What the f*** have these children been told/been watching to make them think that the only way to solve an arguement is to inflict severe pain or death on another person? You can`t tell me the child didn`t know what stabbing someone would result in. Kids in my day just slapped each other, or screamed till they went purple. They certainly didn`t go get a knife...
Well, maybe Shane Trott..

RE: What the hell is with kids these days?
We now have a complete, almost, generation of "Lord of the Flies". They are totally without morals or scruples and have all the characteristics of psychopaths (see dictionary definition).
A very scary country to be in, now.
A book I am reading at the moment defines a person with psychopathic tendencies as:
"devoid of conscience and remorse.
True psychopaths are not evil people incapable of self-control. On the contrary, they are always chillingly in charge of their emotions. What they actually lack is empathy, the capacity to either understand or care what other people think or feel.
Psycopaths are not disorientated or out of touch with reality, they are rational and fully aware of what they are doing and why. Their behaviour is a result of choice, freely exercised.
A psychopath understands the distinction between right and wrong. They rob, hurt or kill, not because they do not know what they are doing but because they do not care that their actions have consequences for other people.
A psychopaths inability to feel guilt is their most distinctive trait. A psychopath will transgress all accepted boundaries if it benefits them to do so. They will rob their parents or abandon their family without the slightest trait of remorse.
Other relevant symptoms of psychopathy include glibness and superficiality, impulsive behaviour, and the total lack of any responsibility. They are deceitful and manipulative people, they like to exercise power over others.. They remain characteristically unperturbed when their deceits or crimes are exposed; if one lie is disposed of they will simply spin another, often unrelated, to take its place.
Psychopaths have a narcissistic and grossly inflated view of their self-worth and importance, a truly astonishing egocentricity and sense of entitlement and see themselves as the centre of the universe, as superior beings who are justified in living according to their own rules."
Psychopathology is not a mental illness.

No it`s not.
But I agree, there seems to be a notable change. I`m not that old, but the nastiest kids got in my school was a bit of a ruffle... if a solid punch was landed then it was a "big fight".
Being 11 or 12 is old enough to know exactly what you`re doing. I don`t know all the facts but it sickens me to think that anyone could `hang` a 5 year old kid.

Bat, thanks for the Psychopath description. The scary thing is, that describes every single Chav I`ve ever met.

Thankfully the child is allright - This was so nearly from all accounts a repeat of the Bulger tragedy & the ensuing farce that followed ensured that those killers effectively got off with it.
These animals if convicted will go through the same comfort zone laughingly called a Young Offenders Institution that Thompson & Venables went through.
I quite like the Helpdesk people in a benevolent (as opposed to malevolent) way as they do some valuable work in preventing us being inundated by every halfwit who can work a phone.

RE: What the hell is with kids these days?
Shocking story...but was there really any need for the "what is it with kids these days?" title? It`s a blatant broad generalisation.
I was looking after my cousins today while I was in revising for my final exam. One of them is 8 and the other 12 and they were both appalled by the story. At that age, kids get up to allsorts and have a bit of a laugh but the vast, vast majority don`t get up to anything like that. It is truly a rare occurence.
It`s a truly sickening story and left me completely puzzled how anyone could get up to such an act...but I don`t by any stretch of the imagination think it`s a common occurence.

You`re right. I`ve cunningly edited the title

When I was a kid my parents smacked me if I was naughty. Im a well balanced individual. If parents smack they`re kids these days they get done big time. Look at the behaviour of kids these days.
Is`nt it funny how these kids are hard when they`re in a gang? If they want to prove they`re worth then why dont they challenge people one to one? Absolute cowards the lot of them!
I got mugged 10 years ago by a gang of about 12-15 lads. What chance did I have to defend myself? I hope the tenner they robbed off me was worth it and hope they purchased a `bad fix` which finished them off.

Exactly. It was my thinly veiled attempt to give a "warning", of which I have been doing since 1995 where I live. No one listened. Now we are scared and housebound, two shootings, three knifings (sp) and weekly muggings later.
Glad you picked up the hint I was implying.
Another extract I read is: "the behaviour of children is a reflection of the society they are growing up in".
