Bob Geldof called Live 8 a "unique opportunity"
Bob Geldof has unveiled plans for a repeat of 1985`s Live Aid concert, called Live 8, to highlight the ongoing problem of global poverty and debt.
The free event will be held in London`s Hyde Park on 2 July with concerts in Philadelphia, Paris, Rome and Berlin.

Madonna, Coldplay, REM, Dido, Sir Paul McCartney and Keane are among the artists confirmed for the London event.

A text message lottery is being held on 6 June to determine who will gain tickets to the UK concert.


Apparently all the radio stations around the country will be giving out a question and the number to text on Monday Morning at 8am.

I`m definatley not going to miss this - I was fortunate enough to watch the Live Aid concert at Wembley in 85 and the Freddie Mercury Concert in 92 - this is one I don`t want to miss............

Am I interested? Not really. I honestly can`t see it accomplishing much. Whereas Live Aid was pretty straightforward in what it wanted (i.e. your money), this is a rather different, altogether more politicised, proposition - the message is much more complex and far harder to sell.

Can you honestly see the leaders of the G8 nations changing their policies because Bono, Chris Martin, Michael Stipe et al tell them they should do? Naive in the extreme, if you ask me.

(I`d like to be proved wrong, but I suspect I won`t.)

I`m getting married on the day it takes place. I`ll probably enter the lottery anyway - I can always stick the tickets on ebay if I win! ;)

What do you expect their pop/rock stars.

I`m 99% certain that Roger won`t play with them :( - it would be the Gilmour, Mason, Wright line-up (which would still be pretty awesome :D )
