VIVA LA FRANCE

leelee (Competent) posted this on Monday, 30th May 2005, 01:42

Well, the french have voted no to the constitution, our goverment probably wont have a vote on it know,so why dont they just have a vote to see if we want to stay in europe ,i believe they wouldnt dare because we would vote no and maybe then we could stop having all this pro europe, anti american crap rammed down our throats.lets get back to when we ruled ourselves and stop lining the pockets of everyone else in europe.and if we have to join anyone lets join america who share more of our beliefs than any europian countries which want to use us as a dumping ground for all their no hopers.

I assume you meant `Vive la France` rather than your strange mix of French and Spanish! Quote:

The Treaty requires all member States to ratify the Treaty so, as it stands, the Constitution is dead and there is no reason for Britain to have a referendum on it. Quote:

No-one apart from UKIP and Veritas are calling for withdrawal from the EU so that will never happen and, even if it did, the British electorate would not vote to withdraw from the EU - too much money, too many jobs and social benefits are at risk from withdrawal. Quote:
we could stop having all this pro europe, anti american crap rammed down our throats.
Who is saying this and what does it have to do with withdrawal from the EU? Quote:

We still rule ourselves unless you are pining for the British Empire, Queen Victoria and Clive of India. As for "lining the pockets of everyone else in europe", Britain gets more money from Europe than it puts in, helped in no small part by the massive rebate we claim every year. Quote:

American beliefs are pretty far from those held by most people in Britain - no healthcare and little social security provision, the freedom to own firearms, feeling superior to the rest of the world, the importance of Christianity to daily life ..... As it stands, Britain is pretty closely linked to the US and I for one would not wish to join the US in any formal state. Quote:
europian countries which want to use us as a dumping ground for all their no hopers.
What exactly is this supposed to mean?

He does though. Thats the funny thing. Totally sterotypical attitude of someone who gets all their political opinions from the sun and the Daily Mail.

Im suspecting Leelee knows nothing about the european constitution, the reasons why the frenchies voted no and the political ramifications of their decisions. Only that Europe made us weigh our food in Kilos, made us have straight bananas and, the most bandied scaremonger statistic going, we take more immigrants than anyone else.

And before you post your carefully considered rebuttal, please consider this:

What are you gonna do today Nick? Whatever I want to, Gosh!!

Blimey Wossname ,you must have a lot of time on your hands to break it all down like that, what im trying to say is we won a war to stop us all being a part of europe and now were just signing it all away, and if we were to have a proper vote on withdrawing from europe i bet youd be wrong and that we would vote to withdraw by a landslide, and all you hear on the news is pro europe this pro europe that, and a load of idiots slagging of america one way or another, and if in the long run we do stay in europe the next thing would be we would probably be drawn into some sort of conflict with america. No i dont like the idea of a united states of europe, and i dont think england would rather be european rather than be Americanized. The trouble is britian was tricked into joining europe and its going to be very hard to get out or rather be given the chance to get out.

leelee, it was so badly written that it took me 5 mins to decipher it and then another 10 to rubbish most of your badly put and incorrect points. Quote:

No we didn`t - Britain declared war on Germany and spent 6 years in a bloody conflict to stop the tide of Nazism. Since the EU was created, how many wars have its member states fought against each other? None; creating a free trade zone in the heart of one of the most volatile areas in the world has forced traditional enemies to trade with each other, share laws and working conditions and made Europe a harmonious (for the most part) area with improved living conditions for most of its inhabitants and over half a century of peace amongst countries which used to make a living fighting one another. Quote:
all you hear on the news is pro europe this pro europe that
What utter nonsense - the press in Britain is probably the most anti-European in the whole continent as Nick has illustrated with just a few of the lies propagated by the rightwing media.

Britain was given the chance, by Jim Callaghan in 1975, to leave the then EEC and a landslide voted to stay in; if the same question was asked of the electorate now and any form of balanced debate were to take place then I would bet that Britain would stay in the EU. I don`t want to be part of a United States of Europe but the constitution that was on offer does not lead to that - would you rather be the 51st State of the US, salute George W Bush as your President and recite the oath of allegiance every day? I would rather stay as we are, in an EU with the motto In varietate concordia ("United in diversity")

Looks like you have a right pair of lefties there leelee. they talk like they know all the facts but know nothing. They have had opinion polls that have shown if a vote was held England would vote to come out of the EU.
As for the lies trust the lefties to give the facts.... yeh right!
God bless the USA

Who does?! lol

But I have to say I think the French did us, the UK, a massive favour. I myself do not support the European Constitution and never will, regardless of anything.

In fact, if I had no choice whatsoever (which is what the EC will impose), I would rather see the United Kingdom become the 51st state of the United States of America.
