Effing Currys !!!!

bowfer (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 26th May 2005, 11:45

See what you think about this, although I`m sure you won`t be surprised.
We went to buy a new dishwasher last night.
I`m usually a great believer in ignoring the local retailers and buying off t`internet, but we needed a new one in a hurry and internet companies want daft delivery charges that outweigh the savings in price.

So we went to the local Currys... :/

Now the salesman tried to sell us the usual extended guarantee crap, which I declined.
It transpires, after looking at the internet today, that the manufacturer (Hotpoint) gives a free 5 year parts guarantee as standard. :D
The tosser salesman didn`t mention that whilst trying to sell my their extended guarantee though, did he.... >:(
Worth lodging a complaint about ?
If so,local shop or head office ?.

youll be p***ing in the wind if you complain to the head office. If its anything like Dixons it will be company policy to `neglect` to mention certain details.

Dear Gamesmaster,

My Friend keeps talking about `Girls`.
What is `Girls` and is it XBox compatable?

That`s what I`m thinking NTG,but I`m f***ed if I`m going to let this slide.
Trying to sell an extended guarantee on a machine that comes with 5 years free parts (and not telling you the machine comes with this) is inexcusable in my book. >:(

I agree.

But Currys are s***. Doesn`t everyone know this?

Kittybrewster or Garthdee Rd? (Kittybrewster is where they tried to charge me for a repair even though it went in under guarentee!)

Kittybrewster
Yeah,we know they`re s***,but I`m usually forearmed with this kind of thing.
Had I known this before buying it would have been interesting to the salesman`s face when I asked him why he was trying to sell me a warranty on an already warrantied machine....

Mind you,he was too busy watching local neds (minks) eyeing up i-pods,so perhaps I should forgive him... :D

If the salesperson tried to sell you the warranty on the grounds that it came with only a 1 year parts and labour warranty then you`ve got good reason to have a moan.

However, the parts are always the cheapest element of any repair bill. If parts were that expensive do you really think the manufacturers would offer free parts for 5 years?

If you`d paid for the warranty on the dishwasher then you`d have been buying a labour only warranty. If you`d bought a dishwasher that didn`t have the additional parts warranty then you`d have been quoted a price for a parts and labour extended warranty.

Currys are clever enough to have a system that knows what type of warranty to sell with which product!

jakeh.
Sorry,but I`m not accepting that.
The salesman did not give any indication that he knew the machine had a parts warranty and certainly did not explain he was trying to sell me a labour-only warranty.
So,in this case,you`re wrong.

Going through the same thing.Freezer has just packed up so checked web sites for manufacturers guarantees.
candy, hoover, hotpoint 1 year full then 4 year parts.
bosch and samsung 2 yr.
All the rest seem to be the standard 1 yr.
The bizzare thing is comets site shows the extended warranty cost.
The price is the same for appliances with 5 yrs cover as for the single year cover?.
As has been mentioned bear in mind that parts may be free but i asked an engineer about fitting a new compressor and was quoted around the £90 mark for callout and labour to fit then parts cost on top of this so £60 for 3 years cover doesnt now seem such a bad deal.Especially as he told me most of the new frost free freezers are prone to breakdowns.

Bosch is usually two years parts and labour.
I bet you the salesman would have `failed` to mention that and tried to sell me a warranty on one of those as well. :/

Bowfer, don`t like saying this but Currys & Dixons suck! I never get anything from them and tell family & friends to do the same. You`ve got nothing to loose if you complain :) I`m sure "which" will also be interested in this little tale of their salesmanship.
