Sorry for being way behind the times here but could someone please explain to me what Criterion is and where can i get them.

Do they just apply to region 1 DVD`s?

criterion are a american company which takes films and completely revamps them. they are only region 1.

Nearly right, Lee.

What Criterion do is actually secure worldwide rights to previously released films, and, as you say, add good quality extras, and sometimes a second disc.

Whilst a lot of them may be R1 releases, quite often they will be R0 due to the worldwide rights that they have.

9 times out of 10 the Criterion releases will be a massive improvement on the original release, although there have been a couple of duffers. Unfortunately, with extra material comes extra price, but all told it`s worthwhile, especially if you can pick them up cheaper than normal from Ringo`s or, if they ever get their stock, Star DVDs.

I have armageddon and the rock r1 criterion editions and compared to the s***e r2 releases they rock.

2 discs
Amazing picture quality and sound and great packaging.

Worth the extra make no mistake

Thanks for all the info, i have some more requests and are as follows;

I have a R2 player and for the forseeable future wont be getting it chipped so i was what criterion titles are R0? If there are any what ones are the best?

what sort of region 2 player do you have?

go to the region hacks forum and search under your player name to see if you can hack into your player via the remote thereby making it region free at no cost and without invalidating your warranty

Sorry i Have a player which is not hackable via the remote - it has to be chipped (its a technics Dv150), that why i was wondering what decent R0 Criterion Disks are there and where can I get them from?
