Mp3 Players....advice needed.

Hi y`all,

Thinking of buying an MP3 player for my girlfriend for xmas, got about £250 to spend. Is Ipod still the best?

It has to be quite easy to use as she is not the techy type. Any advice appreciated. merry xmas....barryls

I would go for the I River. But I expect she will be more thankful for the Ipod because it`s the in thing.

you`ll probably have to go iPod Mini, smaller, a fifth of the storage space and almost the same price tag, but much nicer to look at! Lol

Anyways, could be a mute point, because next to PS2`s, the iPod is the next "almost impossible" item to get.
Try your local PCWorld though, the one I was in today had two left, 40gig units at £299

In my humble opinion.....a much better option than the Ipod and it looks better. No contest!! ;)

my local adsa are doing the 20gig i-pod for £219, which seems a decent enough price, especialy compared to £179 for the mini which is only 4gig :) saw them on display last night, so they do at least have a display model :D

I believe the ipod has to be used with it`s own software & only uses MP3. The I River on the other hand can be used as a Drag & Drop hard drive & will take many other types of files (wmp for instance) & that will give you twice as many CDs.. It also has a viewable remote & has a line in so if your on holiday & you want a track off the radio just run a 3.5 lead into it & it will the song encode for you.

Personal opinion - go for an iPod. By far is the most stylish looking mp3 player, can support a variety of file types, it`s much comfier than the wider i River for when it`s in your pocket and can also be used as an external hard drive as well. Battery life on the 4th gens has been increased by nearly double so is actually worth investing in one now. You can now even get photo iPods, which has to be said is pretty cool, and the remotes on mp3 players aren`t exactly brilliant anyway as you can`t usually skip between bands or different playlists but only songs on the playlist you`re listening to at the time (therefore I would suggest not even using one). As for using it`s own software, there is no hinderance with it, as it`s available for free and in my opinion is actually the best software for the task.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Each to their own and all that, but the iRiver is possibly the ugliest portable device ever produced.

I think the i-pod will be changed quickly into chav-pod. I can`t wait to get me hands on my i-river in a few weeks time, I`m ripping all my cds on to realplayer as we speak.
