I have just sold my LG2330P, (wanting to upgrade to multiregion).
I can tell u yes it could play cdr`s (audio), no it wont play vcd`s even with the multiregion mod/vcr mod. once its been modded it can playback ntsc discs as pal50 so yes vcr backups will be easilly done :)
the reason im upgrading is I want a player capable of MP3 playback which also has RGB output, I have my eye on LG`s new player the 3350E which has these features and more (such as 2x scarts, optical digital output, 5.1 output), Dabs are selling it for £189 inc VAT
I believe Techtronics are doing a MultiRegion mod for this player soon

picture and sound were excellent, I had an opportunity to test the LG2330P on my friends 47" panasonic RPT and the picture quality was on par with his pioneer which was outputing RGB!.
Sound was very clear, although I havent tested it on a DD system yet :(
Ive got Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and there are no lip sync probs with that, it also plays the matrix fine :) the layer change is quite fast :)
ive never heard of any problems from any discs on the LG2300P :)
