Wharfdale DVD 750 Problems- Any Help Much Appreciated

Jimmy Louth (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 16th April 2001, 10:14

I have just recently bought a 3 DVD set of Toystory. I can get the first two discs of the set to play no problem but the third one plays for about two minutes and then stops. However if I try to play the third DVD of the set on my computer DVD player then it works no problem! The only difference I can see about this DVD is that it is Dual Layer Format and the other two in the set are widescreen format. If any body can offer any help on how to get this DVD to run then I would be most grateful.
Many thanks.

What region disc do you have? Tesco do have a `firmware fix` which is meant to fix a few of the problems eg with Buffy etc.

Have you checked with Wharfedale to see what they say?
How about the manufacturers of ToyStory? Remember the old Gladiator problem? It was Tristar`s fault.

When I had a problem with Buffy Season 1 on the 750. I emailed wharfedale and got lots of replies but they refused to say there was a problem. Hence I contacted another dvd news site (homecinemachoice.com) and they contacted wharfedale and got they to state they was a problem and say that the free 750 firmware upgrade from tesco fixed that problem.

Good luck

Hi Folks,

First of all many thanks for the suggestions. Have checked with Wharfedale and DVD supplier and each are blaming each other for the problem! So it looks like I`m going no where fast on this one. Typical.

What is the problem with Buffy Season 1 and the 750? I`ve just bought Buffy and have a 750 from June 2000. Is it only a problem with the first 750 releases (mine plays R2 jaws ok). I`d be grateful for any info on this so i`ll be ready for any probs.

ps. Does anyone know if my 750 will play RCE discs?

I`m having my first ever problems with my 750 (the original version) - my R2 Sopranos DVDs. On the first disk, the first scene of the second episode pixilates, and freezes...after a few seconds, it skips to the intro credits, and loops through them. Gutted.

Who and how do I contact for the Firmware upgrade? Is there a specific phone number/email address?

Cheers for any suggestions.

Hodge.

I took mine back to Tescos about a month ago - got a swap for an LG3000E and a £30 refund. I just said it doesn`t play some discs and they took it back no bother.
Go for it.......

Hi, its about time somebody wrote an autobiog for the 750 and its family, there seem to be soooooooo many issues, pro`s, and con`s, but I am glad to say most of mine have been pro`s!

Ok, to the question in fact, and this is from all the other postings, and some personal experience.

I have an original 750 from Tesco April 2000. Great, hack available for R1 disks too, even better, then there is the problem with RCE - as far as I am aware this is only the case with the 750 whereby it will not play RCE disks. Ok, Tesco`s step, becaused there are a few RCE R2 disks, this has caused a problem with Wharfedale and Tesco, although Tesco Cust Care line is offering to update the chip (Which I had done recently), free of charge, the only stipulation is that you must have one of the disks that are not playing corrently, best one is JAWS! Once this has been done, they hey presto - problems seem to disappear! - Good Luck :-)
