The Olympics - where`s all the flags?

Pete-MK (Elite Donator) posted this on Saturday, 14th August 2004, 13:21

Strikes me as odd that so much national pride was on display when we were playing one sport against one continent. Now that we`re competeing(sp?) in several different events against what is basically the rest of the world, where are all the flags waving from bedroom windows and the tops of cars? Seems given the numbers, our guys need our support even more so..

Football is the national sport and generates far more interest. When do people generally ever give a s***e about the Olympics. Good luck to our team though, I`ve got my union flag in my window :)

Fly your national flag nowadays and you run the risk from your local council of upsetting minority races.

But not where I live ;) . I fly the St Andrews Cross on St Andrews Day. The Stars and Stripes on Independence Day. The Stars And Stripes for one Day of the Battle Of Gettysburg. The Rebel Battle Flag for the second day of Gettysburg and the Stars and Stripes now on Sept 11th in memory of all the fallen firefighters.

I have been flying flags since 1999 and not once had a complaint from neighbours or the council. No wait I tell a lie. One neighbour who has since moved told the council I had a CB Radio and it was effecting his TV. The council came and investigated. I allowed them to look through my house to prove no CB, and they were quite happy with my home made flag pole.
