It`s 9 years to the day since......

David Beckett (Reviewer) posted this on Wednesday, 11th August 2004, 10:58

I broke my neck in a diving accident in France! After 19 months in 4 hospitals and 3 major operations I have done my GCSEs, A levels, BSc and I have nearly finished my MA.
This may be controversial but I feel that, unlike Christopher Reeve, I am living and enjoying my life for what it is and not spending all my time and money preparing for something that may never happen.

That kinda sucks, catching mad cows disease right after your A levels! :)

But seriously, what kind of mobility do you have? And do you have one of those cool motorised chairs like Steven Hawking?

And if so, does it have a spoiler and underside neon lighting? :)

None from the neck down, although I can shrug my shoulders. Typing is done by either family or one of the carers I have who are on 24/7 (in shifts - there are 10).

Nope, I tried one and it scared the s*** out of me. I had to steer it with my head and those things can`t half shift! I just have a manual one, slim and lightweight which has to be pushed. No neon lighting either - matt black so it doesn`t stand out.

Heh, so now we know who to blame for spelling mistakes!

Delighted for you and your triumph over adversity, wossname.

It`s all too easy for the " normal " people to assume that physical disablity means mental disability.

Enjoying ? severe ill heath and mobility problems myself I understand only too well your determination to live life to the full.

I know that several other members of this site have health or disability problems far worse than mine, but rarely if ever do you hear it mentioned other than as a simple statement of condition without looking for or expecting symphathy.

Perhaps we should start our own exclusive mini members section... the crocked and cracked springs to mind. :D
