Ok totally off topic but I have had a day with the double glazing salesmen (god help me)

Has any one any experience of Safestyle UK (you know the f***ing annoying "I sa you buy one you get one free, I say you buy one you get one free" TV ads).

As they were by far the cheepest.

Have you tried any local firms, or just the big companies like Safestyle?

I ended up using a local company called Ultimate Windows (I live in Newcastle). I tried a few firms and Penine Windows where the cheapest for me at just over £4000 for 2 doors and 11 windows. Then the guy from Ultimate Windows turned up. No hard sell, no looking through brochures showing how Pilkington K glass works etc. He measured up, let me pick the style of doors and windows I wanted and quoted me £2900 (he also said that if I couldn`t afford that in one go, I could break it down and get some done now and the rest later for the same price).

The fitter came the next week and the job was done in two days, no mess and no hassle.

Received an invoice a week later which I was more than happy to pay.

(And no, I don`t work for them! :D )

Dont go anywhere near Safestyle - or any of the `National` Companies in fact. As DLAM said above go to a couple of your local firms and get your quotes from them. You will get far better service........

Local small firms usually stand or fall by their reputation
One good piece of advice, always ask if they have any installations in your area that you can check out, A good company will have several and be pleased to use them as a reference point
.
Any hesitation should warn you to be very careful, no matter how low the price.

If you are reasonably competent at DIY, or have mates who are, consider asking for a supply only price, which should be much lower than the retail fitted price.

FYI, didn`t have any problems with Staybrite myself a couple of years ago. Their sales patter was to the effect if I agreed to have an advertising board put up, there`d be a worthwhile discount. The so called advert board never did appear, but still got installation for a discounted price.

The discounts are completely bogus - if any double glazing saleperson comes to your house jst tell em you want a bottom line price. They`ll offer discounts for appearing in their magazines, discounts for ad boards etc but dont get fooled......like i said before though its mainly national companies that do this

A few trades do this (double glazing, kitchens and conservatories - you know the sort!), they quote you a price then say that if you are willing to have your house featured in their brochure or have a sign put up they will give you a discount. Most of the time it`s just another gimmick to make you think you are getting a bargain.

It`s the same as the old "you`ve got a nice face. I`ll ring Alan at Head Office and see what we can do for you" line. A few minutes later - surprise, surprise - `Alan` has agreed a discount if you sign today.

Basically you can`t trust a salesman. If they offer you discounts for this and that, tell them to feck off, The first and only price they give you should be the price the job costs - not an over inflated one.

Edit:- Ooh deja vu!
