scanned photos on cd-r through dvd is it possible

folksie (Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 27th March 2001, 22:58

Is it possible to view my photos scanned and burned on to a cd-r through my dvd player, and what format if any do the photos need to be in.

This is quite easy ;)
1) Your DVD player needs to be able to play play VCDs
2) You need Nero Burning Rom 5.0 (ahead.de) version 5.5 preview is also available but not from that site.
3) The pictures need to be in the jpeg format (unless you find 5.5 which will take bitmaps)
4) Start up Nero select create new VCD and drag the images across, you can set each one to display for a certain length of time before it goes to the next.
5) Burn and play in your machine.
Let us know how you get on, aspect ratio may be a problem here.

fruitybones, Thank you for your suggestion, used nero as you mentioned, excellent job, the aspect ratio virtually filled my tv screen with a superb quality, gonna try and work out now if nero can create an index to the pictures. cheers folksie

How do you make a root menu so you can chose what pic you wanna look at? how many pics can one vcd take?

I also would like to find out if a root menu can be created using nero, but on your answer to pics per cd-r, I scanned a few photos to try first at only 200dpi, these came out with an amazing quality on the tv screen. Each photo was only about 70 - 80 kb jpeg so on a cd-r depending on scan size you should fit a couple hundred pics on.

As for root menus, this is sort of possible in the VCD specs but I don`t think it is of any use when making a disc of images.
With the right software, Nero 5.5 (wait for final version to come out) or proper VCD authoring software you might be able create a direct menu to about 48 / 64 images but thats it.
Remember VCD is intended for Movies, Photo CD (yeah that thing) was for Pix.

As long as your dvd player can read cdr`s it should be able to to read vcd, created through nero as mentioned above.Unfortunately I think the LG 3200e can only play dvd and audio cd,
