I was just wondering (and yes i know this has nothing really to do with dvd`s but you guys usually know the score with internet shopping) i was gonna order some clothes from America (about $200 worth) and then shipping is $50. I was wondering if there`d be any import duties on top of that or whatever the hell they might try and sting me with. I`ve never ordered from America and was hoping one of u nice gentlemen or ladies might be so kind as to give me the lowdown on this.
In other words how much more than the $250 am i actually going to be looking at paying? It`s getting delivered by FedEx if that makes a difference?
Thanks in advance, Jamie
Unless they are Kids clothes (which I think are exempt from import taxes, they are from the usual VAT charge) - then you will be charged import duties on them.
Actually, I think for clothes you not only get charged `normal` VAT, but another 12% on top (might be wrong on that, but I have some sneaking suspicion about it)

Anything over £18 and you will get charged customs fee, VAT and RM`s handling fee.

Have a read of that, I`m not sure how much you will get charged with the customs fee but I do know that packages sent by Fedex are almost 99% guaranteed to get checked by customs so it is highly unlikely that you will get away unscathed. Obviously VAT is 17.5%, Royal Mail`s handling fee is £4.00, Parcelforce`s fee is higher. Clothes or kids clothes are not exempt from any import fees.
or .. do what i do.. and go through a middle man company like douwantit.com .. import tax etc.. is inlcuded in the price..
