I usually find saying, "Happy St. George`s day", gets a very blank response.

People would sooner pretend they`re Irish (for a day) & celebrate St. Patrick`s day, whilst professing their life-long(!) love of Guinness (which, of course, they only drink on that particular day...because they don`t actually like it!).

Yes, I`ll be wearing a red rose today. Good job I live in a fairly anglisized part of N. Wales :D Right on the border actually. Oh, and it`s Shakespeare`s birthday today too.

Careful out there! Mate of mine works for the council and has been banned from putting a St Georges flag on his van as it could be taken as a racist stance against the ethic minorities!
