grundig gdv 220 feedback required

royd (Competent) posted this on Wednesday, 7th March 2001, 22:03

Hi
I have recently purchaased a Grundig gdv220 (from Currys) and I am NOT pleased with it at all. It jumps and glitches on every dvd to some extent, some more than others.
I believe that other people are having the same trouble with their grundig`s,but not having any satisfaction from curry`s about replacing them.
I intend if possible to collate all the complaints from other purchasers and ask Curry`s what it intends to do about them. Also if needs be to contact "Watchdog" with my results.
If you have one of the above players and are having trouble with it please email me on elad.r[at]ten.enoenil with the purchase date, list of problems and any action you have taken up until now.
I will print them off and save all documentation.

p.s sorry about the cross posting but I want to try to catch as many people as I can. :-)

Sorry to hear about your problems. I was `lucky` enough to secure a refund from Curry`s after I encountered a helpful member of staff on their digital helpline (the one that comes up on the startup screen), who rang the store and more or less ordered them to offer me a replacement or refund. I had exactly the same problem with my 220. I am pretty sure that this player has a significant design fault - it`s crap. Hope you get your situation sorted and good luck with the watchdog thing.

Hi andrew
Did you change your player for something else then, and what attitude did you encounter at the shop when you took it back.
I didnt think about ringing that helpline but I will try it now.

I wanted to change it for a Samsung 511, and as they had none instock, and I didn`t want to spend any more than about 180, I got a refund. Ended up getting a Philips 711 in a catalogue clearance shop with a 25% off offer, for 100 quid. This player plays the discs that were skipping in the grundig no problem, and its a lot quieter. When I took it back, I was told to find the person who the mastercaare guy had spoken to on the phone, and she was ok, if a little brusque, but the woman who refunded my credit card even apologised for the problem. still won`t be buying anything else off them though. all the best - and make sure if you take it back its within 28 days - after this they can force you to have a `repair`.

I also have a 220, i am experiencing lip sync probs with region 1`s, especially on DTS tracks. Any other problems i have are minor and am not worried about them. Does anyone know of any cure for the lip sync problem ??

Please help

Hi
Well the update is I took the player back and spoke to the deputy manager, who, after a long conversation agreed to exchange it.But in the event I decided to upgrade the player to an LG which I did, and am very happy with it.

Generally people are having the following faults, dropping or skipping of frames, jerky movements and lip sync problems. But there are some players that are o.k. Though I think these are in the minority.
As for macro hack I dont think it can be done.
