ikdude (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 20th February 2001, 12:02

Hi
I am interested in buying a dvd player for under £200. I would like to know which player is the best to buy and where can you but it from. I would like it be a mulit region player and play vcd`s and cdr`s.
Thanks a lot

The LG 3200E ( i imagine with latest firmware which can be hacked for multi-region ) is on special offer at Toys R Us at the moment for £129.99

I think you will find that the LG3200e does not play VCD and CDR`s as requested. The LG3350 plays CDR`s, CDRW`s and thanx to IT Trolls new hack will play VCD`s however is very difficult to find at this time.

I have ordered a LG DVD-3350E from dabs three weeks ago and i am still waiting.I have been informed by LG that stock is arriving 28/02/01
I understand there is a hack for this machine but i am informed i will not be able to record to VHS tapes. Can you please let me know if using the hack code enables me to record to VCR. ohh by the way the Dabs price is £169.00 + VAT

HMT,
No the hack does not disable macrovision so you will not be able to record to your VCR. At this time if you want a 3350 with macrovision disabled you need to buy from techtronics @ £250 or buy an external disabler.

HMT,

You`ll have to get to the back of the queue if you ordered three weeks ago. People who ordered on the 8th January haven`t received theirs yet. I ordered mine on the 15th Jan.

Dabs said 31st March, although maybe the 1st of March - but they couldn`t promise me anything.

You can get the Lecson DVD-900 from Debenhams for £199 (£189 if you get a Debenhams store card on the spot)
It`s multi-region remote hackable, has a built in Dolby Digital decoder, can play CDRWs, MP3 CDs, VCDs, has 2 SCARTs and looks and sounds great.
It also gets full marks in the What HiFi and What DVD reviews.
