Page 1 of Most filmed story ever?

I can think of dozens (well at least six!) versions of A Christmas Carol/Scrooge for example, but is there a more "popular" fictional story?

The story of Jesus perhaps?

It may be nonsense, but I`m sure I heard somewhere that the character of Napoleon has appeared in more films than anyone else (although he wasn`t fictional....like Jesus :D )

Dracula and Frankenstein (and several versions thereof) have been filmed plenty of times of course.

Brian wasn`t Jesus - he was just a "very naughty boy" according to his mum

Brian was never claimed to be "jesus" even though claimed to be the "messiah". However Jesus did still appear in Life of Brian
