Flickering picture on region 1 disks on my Wharfedale

stevet (Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 27th July 2000, 12:43

I recently inputed the multi region hack into my Wharfedale 750 and region 1 disks play fine for up to about an hour and then the picture begins to flicker (particularly in action sequences). It only fickers once in a while when it starts and then it goes out of control. If I leave the player for a couple of hours it plays fine again but only up to about 1 hour. Region 2 disks play fine however.

Any ideas? Could it be my television and problems with pal 50/60?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Sounds like overheating ...

Not sure about this one. Seems very odd that a problem would take an hour to show up if it isn`t a thermal problem. Even though you say that R2 disks were fine I`d say that it`s an overheating problem if it works ok if it`s left alone for a couple of hours. It could be that the circuitry involved with NTSC-PAL conversion is the point experiencing a heat problem.

I suggest that you take it back to Tesco and exchange it for another. Don`t bother trying Wharfedale themselves as they will not discuss any matters that involve R1 disks. If you HAVE to talk to them, only mention that it is an NTSC disk problem (you get R2 NTSC disks from Japan).

Good luck with Tesco. From other posts it seems likely they`ll be ok.

Thanks for replying, I took it back to a different tescos (in case it was a bad batch) and changed it for another player.

All my disks now work fine.

Thanks a lot

Steve
