Page 1 of Mind the scam going on

A few weeks back I was approached by a guy in a supermarket car park. The guy was a traveller. He asked me if I was interested in buying a top of the range Sony digital camrecorder. One of those tiny one that cost about £1,000, he said that he had also a Sony laptop in his car. He show the stuff but thankfully an old story came back to my mind, some guy one day told me about the same kind of deal and after buying the goods went back to his place to find out that the content of the bag was some stone. Obviously you are f&*^&ed as you can go to the police. My mate told me that he never left the bag out of sight but obviously at some stage they do a swap. So if one guy approach you in a car park, or in the case of my friend at a petrol station, stay away from them as you will get done.

yea, my mate got done by this scam.
he was offered a fone from the boot of a car in a carpark at mcdonalds.
and he got a brick in a bag & £90 worse off. :/

But if the no doubt stolen goods were in the boxes that would be fine then would it?

Can`t agree with you more Andrew.

Put simply guys, anyone daft enough to even entertain talking to some dodgy stranger in a car park is looking to be ripped off.

And i don`t want to offend anyone here, (merely state the facts as they are), but if you`re willing to buy off these people, then you`re as dodgy as they are, really :/

More fool you, anyone with common sense would avoid these plebs like the plague.

i was called over to a car 2 years ago and asked if i wanted to buy a watch . they said it was left over from a meeting/demonstration of goods they had just held , and told me the watch was worth a couple of hundred quid. i could have it for 20 quid.
yea right i said and told them i had no money on me , the cheeky buggers offered to escort me to a cash machine so i told them to fook off .
the watch was prob worth 2quid if you were lucky i would say.

hairy haggler - exactly the same thing happened to me, in Catford. The bloke said he was a rep for BMW and had some exclusive ltd edition BMW watches.

the fact he was driving a merc tipped me off something wasn`t quite right in kansas......

Another old fav is the one where a van will pull up outside a Hi- fi shop that has closed for the night and the try to sell speakers to passers by The story will be that they were suposed to be delivering to the shop but they are not there. He has spoke to his boss and he has said he has got to get rid as they are ex-demo stock. So if he could get £150 for these stunning £1500 speakers he would be happy. Of course he can`t give you a proper recipt but if you have any problems just have a chat with the guys at the shop.

I know this happens as they one tryed to sell me some out side my shop. I played along for a bit saying that I had not heared or the name but he assured me that they were very high end so not that well known by joe public. I assured him back that I know abit about Hi-Fi but did not know these. Anyway after much winding him up I told him I did not need another pair of speakersand bid him good night as I opened the grills on the shop. He let. I put notices up in the windows basicly telling people not to come to me if they had bought a pair and that there value was about £20.

yea thats what they said they were from neal 73 . bmw. i remember now.

had the same scam with the bmw watches and left over demonstration stock. they spun some story about giving one away with every car they sold at the weekend, but had some left over. it happened at donnington service station on m1 last summer

Up here in Central Scotland there was a spate of con-artists with Italian plate cars in car parks trying to sell you `genuine` Italian leather jackets that were obviously cheap junk.

You also get similar scams in Sunday markets all over the UK, from fake designer clothes to pirate DVD`s that have no sound or freeze up, so let the buyer beware.
