SOAP actress Laura Sadler is fighting for life in hospital after falling from a balcony.
The 22-year-old, who plays Sandy Harper in BBC1`s Holby City, was said to be in a "critical" condition after she was found at the foot of a house in Holland Park, west London.
Actor George Calil, who plays her on-screen boyfriend, has been released on police bail pending further inquiries after he was arrested in connection with the incident.
A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: "Police were called by ambulance staff at 6.30am (Sunday morning) to reports that a woman had fallen from a second-floor balcony.
"The victim, who is believed to be in her early 20s, was taken by ambulance to the new Charing Cross Hospital where her condition is understood to be critical."
He added: "A 30-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident. He has since been released on police bail to return in mid-July pending further inquiries."
Calil plays Sandy`s drug dealer boyfriend Sean Hunt in the hit medical soap, a spin-off from the hospital series Casualty which attracts millions of viewers each week.
Sadler has also appeared on TV in Jane Eyre, Inspector Morse, Intimate Relations, Ruth Rendall Mysteries and Belfry Witches.

This is very upsetting, and in my opinion a sad waste of a beautiful young actor`s life. Her smile lit up the drudgery of the Holby City series, and she portrayed the ditsy young nurse excellently.
Regrettably, the Sun saw fit to describe every angle of the sad circumstances leading up to her death. I can only hope and pray that her family who were at her bedside throughout the last 72 hours of her life never saw the crap that the rag printed.
This was a very tragic accident and will have left Laura`s family, partner and friends distraught. My thoughts and prayers go out to them all.

Wow, I never realised how young she was. Very sad indeed.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, no matter how wrong it is ;-)
Very sad news.
God Bless.
It is indeed very sad. She was a beautiful young actress who had everything going for her. It`s a great shame.
Hold on a minute. Let`s wait until the full circumstances of this come out into the open.
If this was merely a tragic accident, I echo all of the sentiments above. A heartbreaking tale.
However, according to many reports, wasn`t she allegedly high on hard drugs at the time of her death? If so, how much of our money was spent keeping her alive for five days when it could have gone to helping save a child who was ill through circumstances of nature, not a deliberate act of self-abuse (the drug-taking).
My heart goes out to this girl`s family. They must be absolutely distraught. But spare me the tears if this turns into another "girl takes drugs, dies, tragic waste of life" tale. It wasn`t as if she had a difficult life or was not intelligent. She admitted herself shortly before the accident that her life was a bed of roses and she couldn`t be any happier. Then why the f*** take drugs?
Save it for someone who gives a s***.

Would you feel the same if it had been your daughter or son?
The Shi*house poet needs a good thrashing, Grafitti ISNT cool.... kiddies!

However, according to many reports, wasn`t she allegedly high on hard drugs at the time of her death? ...not exactly evidence is it? I certainly haven`t seeen these `reports` myself. And I wouldn`t take the tabloid tales as gospel, as they always look for dodgy areas of people`s lives whether it`s true or not. Mind you, there are those who believe everything they read.
What? Sentimental bulls***.
Dusty, what if it was your child that didn`t get a life-saving operation because there was no money because it had been spent on a drug-takers intensive-care treatment? Would you still say that? Thought not.
And maybe we shouldn`t lock up young offenders for fear of upsetting their parents?
As I said, I feel for this girl`s parents, because they are suffering as a direct result of her stupidity. It`s always the innocent that suffer the consequences in situations like this.
Alan - like I said, if the drug-taking story is not true, I have every sympathy.
By the way, just tell me which newspapers/TV stations I should avoid because they don`t speak the truth, and I`ll do my best to avoid them. Even better, tell me the ones that DO speak the truth, and give me evidence for this, and I`ll be able to get the right story every time, won`t I? The New York Times, maybe? Oh no, a trustworthy paper like that wouldn`t employ people who make up stories, would they? Erm, hold on a minute.......
