For all you people who say component is better than rgb

have a read of this on this site.

looks like rgb is better.

component wins when used in a progressive scan set up I would think.

RGB has always been the best to use. Common sense really. Red, Green, Blue. The three primary colours of light. ;-p

Very interesting site!

Quote:

"There is no common video source material, including HDTV, for which RGB will exhibit its superiority."

The MPEG-2 stream on a DVD is stored in component form anyway, so the extra bandwidth of RGB is of little use.

The video will start out as component (inside the DVD player), and will end up as RGB (inside the TV, before it reaches the tube). The only difference is whether the conversion from component to RGB happens inside the TV, or inside the DVD player.

"Also of note, RGB comes in three flavors, RGsB sync on green, RGBS sync as a fourth line/cable, and RGBHV horizontal/vertical sync. on fourth and fifth lines."

RGB via SCART uses the second flavour, i.e. sync as a fourth line. It`s not really relevant to the discussion, but I thought I`d mention it anyway ;-)

I wasn`t able to open the link but the comparision probably depends on the equipment you are using.

I have a Toshiba 420 connected to a Toshiba 32ZD26P telly via component outputs/inputs. It`s relatively easy to swtich back and forth between component and RGB delivered via Scart. The difference is dramatic - component is streets ahead of RGB (via Scart at least) and easily detected by that most valuable scientific tool - the eyes!

I`m not much bothered about the effect of horizontal sync on whichever line. If it looks better, it is better. However with a different player and telly RGB may be better. So suck it and see!
