Page 1 of The Day Britain Stopped - so could it happen ?

Did anyone catch this excellent programme tonight on BBC2, from the makers of the excellent docudrama about smallpox spreading across the UK in the "near future".

This one was about one day, 19th Dec 2003, where the rail workers went on strike, so everyone took to the roads, loads of crashes on the M25, meaning air traffic control staff couldn`t get to their posts meaning two jets crashed midair over Hounslow.

Truly top notch TV.

All though the whole sequence of events was a bit far feched it is only a mater of time befor there is a collition near an airport.

Wern`t they saying that there was high proberbility of this hapening every 20 years but the gov were saying that that was rubish as heathrow had been open for 50 and it hadn`t happend yet. As overcrowding in the skys has only been a problem for the past 12 years or so that are we to expect a mid air crash in about 8 years?

More of this sort of stuff please BBC and less of "I`m a blind date wanbe pop star prison girls wives" ITV copies.

I haven`t the slightest idea how realistic that programme was,
as here in Sarf East London we had a three hour power cut
plunging us back into the dark ages last night.

Ironic or what?

Didn`t this happen last winter when all those people were stuck on motorways for umpteen hours?
it happens every day on the M6 I believe
Do you get power cuts in the height of civilisation then?

4) 20 minutes of lament, staring mournfully at a blank screem

b) an hour and half of X-Files comic books by candle light (One was called Night Lights!) until my eyeballs ached.

finally xii) Listening to a couple of CDs. Praise be to rechargeable batteries.

Just to rub it in - it was fine in Catford in deepest Sarf London, full power and a very enjoyable programme!

and was fine in Lewisham / Hither Green area :-)..enjoyed several pints playing pool in a nice bright pub....missed the prgramme though.

Good to see SE London has a contingent on here!

Perhaps Jits implied he charged them before, used them during, then was able to charge them again afterwards...

I had a power cut yesterday morning actually, lasted only about 90 minutes luckily. They`re talking of digging up the road though as there seems to be a recurring problem: in which case the power will be off for a whole day when that happens.

There is some sort of power cut conspiracy from the Anti DVD Association! ;)
