£58.95 + £8.70 to get a remote Ford Car Key to work again - Help!

niteowl (Elite) posted this on Friday, 25th April 2003, 17:59

Went into Ford dealership today cause Ford Mondeo key would not work remotely - only by sticking it in the car keyhole.

Got two batteries at £8.70 from parts dept
Went to Service dept where they fitted them in for free. The batteries were okay but the key still didn`t work remotely. They said they would have to stick it into their computer to recode it cost £58.95 takes about 45 mins - oh and I had to get all keys recoded.

Is this a Joke? No they said - but even then the key might be faulty!

I`m really P*ss*d off. For all I know they could have screwed it up by taking longer than 15 secs to install the batteries - who knows - it worked okay before.

Any nice person out there know if there is another cheaper way round this?

Thanks Niteowl

Just phoned my mate and he said that at his garage if you have bought the car there it`s free, if you bought it elsewhere it`s a tenner.

58 quid eh?.. well mines gonna cost me £150 to get a replacement for my Renault Clio... you can get a third party company to replace the key.. but i`m pretty sure they can`t operate the central locking.. just the imobiliser.. i`ve resigned myself to fact that i have to unlock and lock all doors manually... and that goes against my pact of no exercise

Hi Thanks for the link. Will give it a go.
Hopefully when it works I`ll tell Ford where they can stick their remote control key charges.
