Important Outlook Express question

mikeyboy (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 20th April 2003, 23:03

My outlook express email suddenly has stopped letting me send any emails.Everytime i try and send an email to any address it comes up with an error message. i.e. "one of the recipients was rejected by the server". What does this mean? and how can i correct it so that i can send emails again. I have no problem receiving them by the way.
Please help.

I can only suggest you check your mail sending format (go tools/options and click the send tab. Mail is sent as HTML by default, with the MIME encoding set to `quoted printable`, with `allow 8-bit characters in headers` set to `off` i.e. unchecked.

I think what is happening is that OE is sending addresses that your SMTP server cannot resolve (or look-up). It`s usually due to a (accidental)change in the encoding format that the mail is sent in.

It can also be dodgy addresses - e.g. ones with ? in, but if you`ve tried addresses that worked before, it`s unlikely to be that.

I`ve had the very same problem with Outlook 2000. I have one legitimate address that it will not send to. If I am sending an e-mail to a number of recipents, including that particular one, it comes up with a similar message. The only way to send the e-mail successfully is by deleting that particular recipient from the `To` list.

The strange thing is...that particular recipient has actually received some e-mails which Outlook returned an error message on!

I find just going into tools then adding your account details back in solves any problems Ive had. just make sure you have your pop and smtp details correct.
You may have sent e mail to a wrong address or the address is correct but the account is closed.
the easiest way to see if your e mail is working is to send an e mail to yourself.
