Page 1 of Scanning photos - how many dpi?
General Forum
When scanning photo`s to be burned to a VCD, what dpi setting should I use?
I do mine at 300 dpi and the results are ok for what I want but trial and error will probably be your best bet as results will depend on quality of scanner , performance of pc etc as if you have not got a fast pc and scan too big it will take ages or even fail to complete as the file sizes can get very large on high res scans , my scanner saves all scans as bitmaps so I then change them to jpegs to cut down on file size also I don`t know what dvd player you have but mine will only play pictures in jpeg format
It depends what you`re going to use them for. If they`re only going to be viewed on a webpage, then around 80dpi is good enough (most monitors are around 76). If you`re going to print them, then 300dpi is probably adequate.
