Surely you`ve already got a copy of Windows. In which case you can buy a brand new copy of the upgrade (identical software) for around the same price.
Buying XP 2nd hand is not quite the same as previous versions. It will probably already have been activated on a different PC and you will need to contact M$.

I did have a full copy of Win95, then upgrades thereafter. Unfortunately the new machine won`t accept Win95.

Scan computers just under £68 (full version is cheaper than the upgrade. This is straight up no bulls**t. Check it out for yourself at

That`s the OEM, which is supposed to only be intalled in a new computer. Most suppliers are happy to sell it, but may insist you buy a "major" component at the same time - mobo, HD, processor, internal modem (!). To quote Scan "Please note that this version for sale is the OEM version, i.e. it must be purchased with hardware".
Still a good price - £75.79 inc delivery.

If you have a student in the family or a child you can get the Pro version for £45.88 inc vat. It is a full bootable version but again needs proof of a previous version (could you borrow a disc for a min off a mate?)
Go to _http://www.hamiltone.co.uk/ and look in the software section. I think Insight sell this as well.
