Didn`t he always plan to do that? I thought it was meant to be a 9-part series from the outset.

Aren`t most of us going to be dead by the time it`s all done anyway? I`m sure George has probably cloned himself by now (or has plans to) so he`ll still be there at the bitter end :-)

the whole 6-part/9-part things has been going on for I while. I too thought he was always going to make 9 parts mainly because...(takes deep breath....)

When Lucas pitched the original film, Fox, obviously said it was too long, so he split it into 3. Fox said the parts were still too long, so they chose the part which was more marketable and more practical to make in 1976. Thus, the middle trilogy was made. Lucas then gave ILM to the masses, and it wasn`t until he saw the hand-held T-rex shot in jurassic park that he decided the technology had come far enough for him ti make his `vision` of the first trilogy.

During the filming of this new trilogy, Lucas has `spread it about` that there will only be 6 films, the original and new trilogies, only to take the attention off what happens next, and to concentrate on what`s happening now.

If he does make a new trilogy, and it`s a success, maybe it`ll change some `critics` opinion of his skill (or lack of) as a director. The problem with this 3rd part is that it`s full of things that we know are going to happen, so some of the story telling is taken away right there. At least with some new films, he can go where the hell he likes.

Yeah, what Stanz said above! Lucas originally had it down as a 9-parter.

I thought it was definately decided that there is no more after part:3? (It would just stay as 6 parts) Where did you hear this reliable info mate`?!

Regarding the nine part Star Wars series:

"...but when those problems have been ironed out, subsequent
films should be cheaper and alot faster to finish up. So we might
not have to wait until 1997"

I read just a couple of days ago on Theforce.net that Lucas would be making more personal smaller films in a similar vein to THX1138 after he finishes Episode 3.

Would also be interested where you got this info from floyd.
