RE: I haven`t stopped laughing..
I heard this existed but hadnt gone looking for it. When will americans learn it isnt 9/11 but 11/9?
And wasnt the WTC known as The TWIN towers?
I`m hoping this petition is some kind of joke, but then that makes it more worrying how many people have replied, even just to slag them off.

RE: I haven`t stopped laughing..
I did wonder about the title of this film when i first saw it.
But I read soewhere that apparently Peter Jackson was more worried about upsetting a load of Tolkein geeks that he stuck with the name, even though it may cause upset to the many people affected by what happened on September 11th 2001.
And, are you really picking bones about whether it is the TWO towers or the TWIN towers????
I haven`t signed the petition, but after many past and future Hollywood films have been cut or re-shot to omit images of the WTC, and avoid unnecessary upset, why shouldn`t/wouldn`t he rename his film?
I`m probably gonna get flamed off a load of Tolkein geeks, sorry fans when they read this!!!!
All I can say is......BRING IT ON!

RE: I haven`t stopped laughing..
I can understand scenes or references about the WTC being omitted from films, but changing the name of a film that has no reference to the WTC is a typical dull assed american response.
Thank god Peter Jackson is not american and has a bit more sense.
RE: I haven`t stopped laughing..
You dont have to be a Tolkien fan to realise it is just a stupid idea. Why rename a 50 year old book just to please a few people who will actively seek offence in anything that they can. Whats next, rename KFCs tower burger? Perhaps it should become the Elevated Burger. And yes I am picking bones about the name. The WTC was always called the Twin Towers. Now the movie is close to release someone decided to refer to them as the Two Towers to suit their needs.
The BBC have the story here:

Heh, for anyone to believe that The Two Towers should have been renamed to something else is just hilarious, imho. The two are in no way connected, as someone pointed out the WTC was known as the Twin Towers, and LOTR: TTT has been called that since the book was published, long before the WTC was even built.
It`s the film of the book ffs, what should it be called? Barney Goes to Mordor? :)
RE: I haven`t stopped laughing..
ouch, it`s getting hot in here!
I`m not arguing chicken and egg, what came first...even I know that the book was wrote and named long before the WTC was built.
And OK, perhaps totally renaming it was a bit extreme.
But in the PC world we live in today, why not just drop the `Two Towers` from the title, and call it LOTR 2?
Surely even PJ could see that some people (myself excluded - i`m not American, just British form Newcastle), may take offence to it following events of 15 months ago.
MJ
I think more people would be offended if it was renamed tbh. :)

The text from the petition
"Those of us who have seen The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring know what an amazing director Peter Jackson is. When I learned that there apparently was to be a sequel, I was overjoyed. However, Peter Jackson has decided to tastelessly name the sequel "The Two Towers". The title is clearly meant to refer to the attacks on the World Trade Center. In this post-September 11 world, it is unforgiveable that this should be allowed to happen. The idea is both offensive and morally repugnant. Hopefully, when Peter Jackson and, more importantly, New Line Cinema see the number of signatures on this petition, the title will be changed to something a little more sensitive. "
It just shows how ignorant they are. "When I learned that there apparently was to be a sequel, I was overjoyed." Well duh. I guess they havent really done thier homework on what it is they are protesting about. It isnt really a sequel either but a continuation of the same story.
"Hopefully, when Peter Jackson and, more importantly, New Line Cinema see the number of signatures on this petition, the title will be changed to something a little more sensitive."
Yeah right. The first 1000 signatures have been replaced by False Entry Voided on the petition website.
