<<Just Got Busted for Speeding>> :-(

Neiliboy (Elite) posted this on Friday, 8th November 2002, 13:44

Hi guys,

Ive had a wicked job since January. Involves driving around all day visiting customers, delivering presentations etc. I love it. :-)

In September the company gave me a Brand Spanking new Golf GT TDi 6 Speed Beast with 130 Horses under the bonnet.:-)

Yesterday i got a letter from Norfolk Constabulary saying i`ve been busted for speeding by a mobile camera (van sitting on a bridge on the A11). I dont know what speed i was doing as i wont find out till next week although it was in the region of 80 - 85mph. :-(

I drive around 20,000 miles a year and i dont have 1 single colleague (same job as me) who doesnt have points or a speeding fine.

I know i`ll get barraged by a load of self righteous muppets on this thread telling me i deserve it and speed kills and all the rest of it, which i certainly dont dispute. I do however believe that the speed limit in city boundaries is quite rightly 30 mph but on motorways it should be aroung 80 mph. I dont know anyone apart from my Grandad who always sticks to speed limits.

The reason i say the limit should be increased is because the braking technology in cars today is 10 times better than the types of cars that were around 20-30 years ago when the laws were laid down. Im pretty certain i heard a couple of years ago that even the AA and RAC were in favour of this.

Anyway - just wanted to let of some steam. I certainly will be watching my speed in future. Id also like to hear your thoughts on this issue. I dont believe for one minute everyone who posts here doesnt speed at any time.

Now where can i find one of these radar thingies.............

I got caught doing 48 in a 30 zone, don`t know why it is a 30 zone cos there are no houses on the road, just industrial factories which are not even close to the road. Anyway, got away with it as I was driving a van that belonged to the company I worked for, dunno if they could prove I was driving as sometimes others had to drive the van. Anyway I refused to bring my driving licence in and soon after left the company; i wonder if anyone got the points in the end.

"braking technology in cars today is 10 times better than the types of cars that were around 20-30 years ago"

maybe but if you haven`t got anti lock brakes you`re still gonna end up skidding a long way. I think the fuzz don`t care that much about people doing 80 on motorways anyway, if it was increased it would encourage people to do 90 instead; that`s probably not a good thing.

Maybe she was who knows ! - Thats not what he asked ! or sugested SO BACK OFF

Roads are for cars not people - The world is a dangerous place a $hit happends LIVE WITH IT.

neiliboy - What speed limit where you in - and an NIP ( Notice of Intent to Prosecute ) should have hit your doormat within 14 days of the said offence - if it didnt then there your first get out of jail free card.

If you were going over 30mph over the speed limit then it will HAVE to go to court and youll probably get a short ban ( a few weeks ) and a medium fine. If not itll most likely be points and a small fine

Tell us a few more details and maybe we can help more.

Get your self a Radar detector if you do that sort of milage ( Like i do ) then you need it as its easy to drift over the limit without realising. The Bell 550 is the best ive found and is better than the GPS systems as it gets mobile traps too.

Best of luck with it - Let us know what the limit was - the NIP should specifiy your speed aswell - is unusual if it doesnt.

Uncalled for comments there GSM. Roads are for drivers who give a damn about more things than getting to A-B as fast as possible, and as far as I can remember, there are things called pedestrian crossings and traffic lights which allow people across roads (unless the driver is a tosser and decides a red light isn`t for him, or black and white stripey things are some sort of speedway start point). If you get caught speeding then tough - whether or not people think the speed limits are set too low is irrelevant.

oh..right.. Im so sorry i had the nerve to even post a negative response to the thread... what was i thinking.. you`re all grown men who can drive as fast as they like.. what business do i have even commenting on such a topic.. after all i`m not a w***er in a suit in an very important sales job...

and.. how dare my aunt be killed in a head on collision with someone speeding? .. what was she thinking.. how inconsiderate of her...

I agree. Speed limits are there for a reason.

Why should people choose which laws to break?

You broke the law so "tough titties" !!

Nice to see the usual response the guys just venting - they do far too many speeding checks to line there own pockets these days whilst serious crime goes unpunished.

The reason for my previous ( admitidly harsh ) response was it was not helping the thread starter who was requesting help - that is of course the idea of a forumn !

After all just because your caught speeding doesnt mean you MEANT to be over the limit. Modern cars are powerful machines and its easy to drift over the limit. Dont tell me non of you guys have ever Never broken the speed limit !

Neiliboy im affraid what i thought was a freidly forum has taken he typical approach to these matters and gone for the lets slat him approach and im holy than thow - instead of the more helpful get the facts see if we can help.

Best of luck with it

Hey man,

As i said i dont for one minute think that speed limits should change in built up areas and a 30mph limit is spot-on. My sympathies to you and your family and anyone else who has had such an unfortunate incident. but to call me a w***** is stupid and ignorant.REFERENCE TO INSULT REMOVED.

On the motorways a copper would not stop me if i was doing 75mph. In fact i`ve overtaken them on numerous occassions over the speed limit.

There is a clear difference between Reckless driving which blatantly causes accidents, and sensible driving which may or may not be over the speed limit. I would class myself as a sensible driver.

I keep my braking distance, i dont speed in built up areas esp near schools shops etc. i dont stay in the middle lane on the Mways causing bottle necks in the fast lane, and i have never been stopped for speeding before.

In this case I dont know the exact speed yet. It was on a motorway (70MPH) and the letter (Intention of prosecution) DID arrive after 14 days. Got letter yesterday, offence was on the 10th september.

Unless you were going over 100 and there nothing else like dangerous driving ( which from what you said i doubt ) then it will be 3 points and a £60 fine - The points remain for 4 years and are then totally removed ( after 3 they are removed from you licence if requested but still count until the 4th year ).

Take a look at the Radar Detectors there totally legal and provide you with a useful reminder to check your speed - Also as the police only do checks at "accident black spots" then it will make you driving safer too.
