FATAL EXCEPTION HELLLLLLLLPP!!! PLEASE

i keep getting a fatal exception blue screen that reads "FATAL EXCEPTION OE AT 0028:000000" whenever i try to use my CD writer not just to burn but even when putting in a disc just to read it i have put a different writer in out of my other p.c but still the same thing happens i have a DVD drive on the same IDE cable set to slave that is fine and works as normal after i get the blue screnn the p.c locks up i really need some help/advice please thanks in advance

Don`t think it`s anything to do with having them on the same IDE cable - most people do. The only likely problem that would cause would be buffer underrun.
You`re right in having writer as master too.
Are you running Windows ME. If so, from my experience, the Blue Screen of Death` was a pretty regular occurence.
Have you tried removing (uninstalling) the cd-writer?
What OS are you using?
On XP, you can reomve it, reboot and it will reinstall itself.

am using win98 i have been running this set up for a while with no problems i have uninstalled the drive but still no joy regards

If after you have tried the posts on here and still no luck it may work if you do this.

I have a IWILL motherboard in my computer and twice its acted up and the only way to get it to work properly again and give access to the drive was to reset the battery on the motherboard then everything worked ok after a driver was reloaded again.
I use Win 98 sec/ed .
