DTS Issues on Sony DVP-735S

TH12345 (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 4th December 2000, 08:03

I have a Sony DVP-735S Player, I`ve enabled DTS output threough the digital lead but when playing Gladiator (R2) or Pitch Black (R1) [Which are labeled as DTS disks] my DTS Amp reports that its a Dolby Digial (non DTS signal). When I get the player to display the encoding of the disks on screen it reports that the disks are Dolby Digital 3/2.1. I think my player was modified with a Paragon Chip. Thanks in advance. Troy

I`m not using a Sony Amp, I`m using a Denon AVC-A1SE. It doesn`t look as if the Amps to blame, I don`t think the player is outputting a DTS signal..

Those discs contain both DD5.1 and DTS.

You will need to go into the audio menu on the discs and select the DTS tracks (and confirm if needed) as the discs default to DD5.1 and prevent switching while playing.

Best way to check is while the disc is playing press the display button (if the 735 has it (the 725 does) on the remote. This will bring up the onscreen menu. Move down to the audio selection menu and once you are over it the audio details will be shown. DTS will say DTS on the display with 5 solid speakers.

I was selecting DTS as the soundtrack!!!!

Yesterday I borrowed another copy of Gladiator and that worked so I swapped mine for another copy and that one works!!

Strange!

Thanks for all your help!
