Printer Problem...

Dazza001 (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 6th August 2002, 12:27

I`ve had a Lexmark Z11 inkjet for 2 1/2 years. The other day I changed the cartridge (well, refilled the old one) and all seemed as normal after a few test pages. However, yesterday the carriage kept stalling. I`ve removed and reinstalled the cartridge several times, have tried a different cartridge, and even tried a dummy print with no cartridge, but it still sounds as if the carriage is struggling to make it`s way along and back - sometimes it just jams up and makes a horrible loud noise!
So, if anyone has any suggestions that could help save it, that`d be great. If not (being pessimistic) and it`s doomed, anyone know where I can buy another Z11 for really cheap (online or otherwise), or even just a very cheap inkjet printer that uses refillable cartridges? It doesn`t have to be that good quality print-wise, as I don`t do anything fancy with it.

TIA for any help...

Dazza.

Hi

Printers have a chrome slider bar the print head assemble runs on and it sounds like the oillite bushes have dryed out /felt pads so apply a small amount of oil by hand on the slider bar [ dont get any on the feed rubber roller.]Then have it track left and right a few times and if that does not fixit something else must be damaged as well.

Ps Check www.bigpockets.co.uk for the cheap lexmark printer .

bye

I am not connected to bigpockets other than buying from them the odd time.

Thanks a lot RB - I`ve just put some WD40 on the chrome bar, and it seems to have helped. Of course, I managed to get some on the rubber printer feed thingie too, but after running half a dozen blank sheets through it seems to have mopped up the worst of the excess.
Tried some test printouts - the carriage juddered on the first one, but since then the next four or five have all come out perfectly. Hopefully there`s life in the printer yet! Anyway, just to say thanks for the info - much appreciated.

Cheers,

Dazza.
