Help needed with CD recorder

brodie (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 7th July 2002, 11:47

My dad has just purchased a Pioneer PDR-609 CD recorder to record his vinyl collection to CD. Does anyone know if you can `chip` this recorder so that you can use bog standard CD-Rs. When you put in ordinary CD-R`s you get `Pro-DISC` comes up on the display. In the instruction book it says "The loaded disc is a CD-R disc for professional use without CONSUMER USE designation"
Many thanks for any help

Is he using data CD-Rs or audio CD-Rs ?

There are discrete differences, and I would suggest that he needs to use specific audio CD-Rs.

Can you open the cd drawer with your fingers?
I had an early philips model whereby you could put an audio only cd in, wait until the machine registered the disc, then pull the drawer open and use any old cdr. I done this for three years with no problems.

Sell the drive - buy a liteon - these drives will copy and burn from/to all cd media .. they will also copy most protected game/utils including safedisk2 protected games etc for backup use.

you said its new, so take it back and get a refund then goto http://shop.cd-writer.com

The liteon 40x cd writer is only £57.58 (inc vat)
