Playstation Network down, anyone else as cynical as me?

Jimbo :oÞ (Elite Donator) posted this on Monday, 1st March 2010, 10:12

Got home last night, thought I`d do some MW2 before bed.
Nope, PSN is down so can`t log in....fair enough I`ll play offline.

Nope... can`t sync trophy information!
WTF! I don`t care about trophies, i wanna play the game itself!!

Anywhoo, left til this morning, tried again, still down.
Check into it online a bit, can`t get the EU site up but the .com loads and there`s hundreds of posts about it on their blogs etc.
One of the symptoms is the PS3`s internal clock is being reset to 31/12/1999 (or similar). I manually changed my clock and set not to update from the net but still no joy.

Then I see that apparently slim models are logging in fine, only fat model PS3`s are having issues?
The posts are from original 60 gig owners (the BC ones), 40`s (me n ogs type), 80`s (my type) so it seems *all* fat model variants but no slimline variants.

Now the cynical part.... wan`t the recent beginnings of PS3 "hacks" that were found limited only to fat models?
Could this be a first stage attempt at patching this supposed "unpatchable" vulnerability that`s gone wrong?

Also seriously unimpressed that I can`t even play my own games because the trophy thing won`t sync

suppose it means I can work on that 40 gigger again and try to fit the fan control . LOL.
(it has no game data so if i just don`t link it to the net in the first place I should be able to start again from scratch )

I`ve left strict instructions not to turn my 60gigger on at home!

aside from the obvious bad crapp @ sony psn network,  does that mean you can`t play the single player MW2 unless you have an internet connection ?

It has been advised that users with older PS3 models should not use their console until further notice.

which to me suggests they don`t even know if the afflicted systems can be fixed without a physical recall.....  hence trying to stop the bug actually occuring, while they try to hobble together a patch...

So er... anyone fancy a game of um... chess?

Hope they fix it by tonight. Just got Lego Star Wars for the nipper, he`s so excited about playing it!

Can`t you just switch your router off for a bit? Surely households without a broadband connection can still play games offline...?

Until they sort themselves out, anyway, you know what I mean. :)

Does this mean I shouldn`t play a Blu-Ray film either?

it looks like the problem is in the existing firmware, consoles not even connected to the net are being effected
so the advice is to leave it switched off untill the fix is found...  though this may not help as it could happen as soon as you turn it on,  meaning the only possible way of recovering the ps3 would be via a cd/usb stick firmware update ....

Absolutely ridiculous ! >:(
Cant play a game whether I want to go online or not but at least this is my 80 Gig unit and although it`s out of warranty if there`s a firmware or existing fault then they`ll have to sort it out. Especially as we are talking about millions of consoles worldwide.

Wonder if that means I could get the 40 gigger done too?
