Unreadable Disc Error XBOX 360

badboybez (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 22nd November 2006, 11:10

Getting `unreadable disk error` when playing a couple of games recently (always Fifa07) -the discs are fine no scratches and are clean. So was wondering about bunging in a cleaner for the drive. Can I just use any? Or is there something else on the market - I suppose I`m only wanting to clean the laser head.
Any thoughts?
If this doesn`t work I`ll be returning the console for a replacement at GAME.

Take it straight back now Bez, from what I`ve heard from similar stories on Live it will only get worse and worse over time....my first machine did this from two weeks in, my second machine has not done it once. ball ache yes but i don`t think a cleaner will be the answer i`m afraid my impressions are that it is a hardware issue ...

Hmmm. Mine has done this a few times, always Fight Night (something to do with EA games?)

In fact the first day I got my 360 this was the only game I had and it gave me that message for about 20mins.

Recently it has started doing it again but only with Fight Night but the message is

Quote:
Please insert this game in an Xbox 360 console

I`m sure it`s just a message they`ve put in for a laugh, although the first time I got that message I had to have a look down to make sure I hadn`t put it in the old Xbox which was sat there next to it.

My Xbox I had as a gift in Jan 2006. It started playing up within 1 week. Giving me the "unreadable disc" message. It then stopped doing it and worked fine for months. Burnout revenge started doing it too. Then stopped. I tried playing BLACK and it started doing it on that A LOT and crashing giving me a bottom left red light and error 64 the black screen of death. Turn it all off and it started working again. GOW does it too. Turns out that mine was made in the faulty batch of JAN 06. It`s tempremental, but not un- useable. I may call MS if it fails completely..

That`s amazing, you got your Xbox 360 in January 2005, 10months before the release date? I think you should accept that there would be a few bugs if you got it that early? ;)

I`ll keep it until after Crimbo (not goin` to get much time on it until then) then it`s going back to GAME me thinks.

Same here. Maybe its just a fault with the game? I haven`t noticed it happening on anything else (playing Call of Duty 3 and that`s fine).

Try removing and then re-connecting the hard drive, not really related I appreciate but you never know it does cure some xbox ills.....don`t live with it though just go back to Game and be assertive.

Right. I`ve had enough of this. I`m calling MS tomorrow morning first thing. first of All I get the lovely disc read error message with GOW, then it thinks it`s a bloody DVD! The disc is spotless. I`m not having this go on now. As it`s in it`s year warranty I shouldn`t have any trouble getting a new console from MS should I?
