Page 1 of Why can`t i drive properly?

Ive always played and loved arcade racers since i was nipper, from Pole Position to NFS MW. Ive recently been hammering Most Wanted and DUB edition to death and i got a bit sick of winning everything so i decided to move onto Sinulation Games, ala Forza and TOCA 3.
I seem to be having problems though. On Forza i always seem to spin out on the slightest of bends, ive tried coming of the accelerator before the bend then foot down though it but i keep spinning. When i come upto a turn and try braking i lose all stearing control and the car just skids forward. Then i moved onto TOCA 3 which doesn`t seem quite as hard as Forza but still, there are issues. For Example, give me a front wheel drive car and i`ll hammer it around any circuit, same with the F1`s but anything else is a bloody nightmare. The go-karts just want to do donuts all the time which is fun for all of 5 minutes, the buggies explode as soon as you hit anything and the classic rally cars handle like blocks of ice.
Is it simply a case of persistance or should i give up and go back to MC, NFS, GTA:SA?
Regards
Bryan
In a real car if you take a corner too fast you will lose traction and come off. You have to get the speed down before you go in. The other games are more arcadey, and don`t simulate the traction issues so much.
Sometimes realism doesn`t make for a better game though. :)

It`s not easy being different. It`s not easy being cool....but somehow I manage....

If you want to move from arcade racer to sim, I`d recommend the Project Gotham series as a transitional stop-gap. It`s got the weight and finesse handling associated with sims, but not to the degree that it makes playing a video game feel like a chore - which is exactly how Forza felt to me.
If it`s any consolation, I suck at the more traditional sim racers too, ever since the original GT on the PS1.

Heh......GT on the PS1 I could play the Autumn Ring in the Impreza, using nothing but my arse cheeks. I used to f***ing rock at that game. Stopped playing it when I didnt get a PS2 and even though Sega GT was a total blag, I never really got into it. The only cart games ive bought in recent years have been Mario Kart DD and Burnout Revenge.
I had an F1 game on the PS1, bought 2nd hand. Played it for about an hour and took it back. Not only was it stupidly hard, it was also stupidly boring.

It`s definately a case of persistance. I bought the game last week and finished 40% of it the same evening. Last year when I bought TOCA 2 it took me a year to finish it! It`s simply a case of experiance, I think. Even though the cars physics feel a little different the same braking points and techniques for F/F or F/R cars still apply. The rallycross events etc are still ridiculously easy I won the Monster Trucks event at the first attempt etc whereas the tarmac races are still much harder. There is a career choice you can make and some are definately easier than others.

If you want to talk realistic handling, try the Re-Volt games (only on Dreamcast though, as the other versions are stinkers)
Realistic in terms of R/C cars, mind!
