Page 1 of old xbox, media center?
Gaming and Consoles Forum
Thought I`d try posting this again, or has everyone got 360`s and PSPs :/ I,ve checked some sites but would like some recommendations(i,e Whats your setup(modchip/hd/dash)?
As we now have a spare xbox, I was thinking of moding it, on the cheap, use it as a media player? I know alot of you have modded boxes If you could give us some ideas/help what I should do with it, seems a shame to leave it gathering dust

RE: old xbox,media center?
you`ll be better of with an auto-installer, just make sure you get a decent modchip & you should be fine, then just check the torrent sites for x-disc or slayers autoinstall :)
But if you ask the whoever mods it nicely then they will usually install everything for you :)

RE: old xbox,media center?
cheers ogster, I,m going to try it myself (got a soldering iron) :) new project, will let you know how I get on :B
hello,
how did you get on with this? I`m looking to do the same thing and set up the xbox with a bigger hdd and use it as a media player.
which modchip did you get? I`m probably going to go for the xecutor 2.6 with the solderless adaptor.
does anyone else have any experience of this chip?
cheers,
EK
xecutor 2.6
i have the soldered version of this chip & it`s excellent :D & tbh, after selling my psp & my xbox 360 my chipped xbox is the only hardware i "really" use, tho i still play my dreamcast fairly regularly, the streaming functions of a modded xbox cannot be beaten & it`s used primarily as a media centre (along with a good wireless controller)
as for fitting the chip, i recently gave a spare xecutor 2.6 chip to a friend & they had no problems fitting it, & that particular chip can be picked up for around £20 now so it`s deffo a necessary upgrade for any xbox :D
EDIT= THIS is the pad i use, & i can`t recomend it enough.

no problems at all. :) thanks Chris. :D
i recommend getting a decent butane soldering iron. got mine
from B&Q, which cost me £20, about £5 more than the electric ones which have a
awkward cable attached which can hinder soldering prowess!!!
have a look on http://www.kanection.co.uk for the latest prices on the 2.6ce.

Chris
yeah, no probs streaming.....v.easy :B
i`ve just put a smallish 20GB drive in at the mo` and have loaded a few
of my games onto it...i think i managed to squeeze 7 of them on along
with a few MB of photo`s and music.
i`ll definitely get a larger hdd next week when i get paid. i`m thinking of
starting off with one about 160GB, i doubt i`d fill a 250 or 300GB drive
so that would probably be a waste.
i`m also thinking of getting one of those wireless gaming bridges so that
i can stream stuff without the cables. the 802.11g (54Mbps) should
be okay for most stuff.
i`ll let you know how i get on...thanks again!! :)
