How old for Nintendo DS

big m (Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 19th November 2005, 04:12

Hi
Thinking about getting my 5 year old a Nintendo DS with Nintendogs game for Christmas, but he is only 5 years old. Will he be too young for a DS and will he be too young to be able to play Nintendogs? Any help or opinions would be a great.
Cheers.

I`d stick to playing with (and quite possibly eating the accessories of) action figures and stuff if he`s only 5.

Unless... It`s a ploy, where you give the DS to your kid on Xmas day, but by New Year he`s forgotten about it, so it`s your new bathroom buddy. :o

Oh yeah... Ken is a badass dude!

I can`t speak for Nintendogs, but I`ve had a DS pretty much since the launch and my kid who was 5 at the time had no trouble with either Wario or Mario 64 or Zookeeper. It`s a pretty easy thing to get used to is a touch screen, and the kids have no bother. I would say though, if you`re after a DS just get one! ;)

Our youngest (8) is after a DS. For years, she`s had no problems with computers, playstations etc so don`t think this will be a problem. Biggest problem appears to be getting hold of 1.

my little boy is only 3 & 1/2 and he stole my DS away from me and played Warioware for about an hour and had no problems, and has been hooked ever since! however nintendogs looks complex, wario ware is recommended due to its simplicity!

I was going to ask the same question, we are stuck for something to get our eldest, 6 year old daughter for Christmas and thought of a game boy but wasn`t sure is the DS would be a bit too complicated for her.

Mind you she is a bit a genius so now think a DS could be just the job.

All the best

Think consolewise the DS is no more complicated than the Game Boy, just a bit more advanced and hence expensive. Its the games that will tend to be more complicated due to the DS`s power.

It looks really good, we originally fancied the GBA because of all the Disney Princess games which would be ideal for Olivia, but now realise that the DS will play them also.

Just one thing, I have been looking at the nintendogs packages and can`t seem to find out what will happen when you change cartridges to play a different game.

Will you loose all the game play so far or is there a way of storing it?

Also a shame nowhere seems to have the pink one in stock, that would have been perfect.

Thanks

Gerald.

having played Nintendogs your child mind find it to difficult! i really recommend warioware as its very simple with just touch screen controls!

In the end we went for a GameBoy Advance,

Firstly because we thought our 4 year old would probably want to play it

And secondly, the pink was readily available.

All the best

Gerald.
